how much should you weigh?

I personally do not let a scale tell me how much I weigh. I use my clothes to show my body flows.

Even though I'm contradicting myself, I'm 5'5 as well. I weight around 145. My goal weight is 130 though. Right now I wear a size 9 in pants and I would like to get down to a 5. I've been there before but I gained back.

Im 5'8 and I weigh 147. I went from a 3 to a 5 to a 7-8 to a 11 and now a 13!!!! Im quoting you because you said you were in a smaller size before but gained it back and it sounds like me. Girl we got to get back in those cute and small junior jeans. :cheers2:

Ideal weight (one of the "official" ways of doing it) = 45kg (for 150cm) and then add 0,85kg for each cm you have above the 150cm.
And that is the weight you should consider when calculating your protein needs. ;) (there are exceptions of course, for example the "massbuilders", but for regular people, that will work).

Are you sure thats right? If you are referring to the 'Devine' Forumula it goes:

Men: Ideal Body Weight (in kilograms) = 50 + 2.3 kg per inch over 5 feet.
Women: Ideal Body Weight (in kilograms) = 45.5 + 2.3 kg per inch over 5 feet.

So my ideal weight would be 59.3kg

Seems a tad low for the average person.

This formular shouldnt be used:

"Problems with the Devine Formula for Ideal Body Weight
As descibed above, the Devine IBW formula suggests ideal body weight values that are too low in women generally and impossibly low in short women. Since the Devine formula is used by hundreds (perhaps thousands) of websites to suggest goals for weight loss, it is important to point out its limitations. The other formulas are rarely (if ever) seen on websites.

The Robinson and Miller formulas would perform poorly for tall men. The best compromise, in my opinion, is to use the Devine formula for Men, and use the Robinson formula for Women. In Men, the average suggested weight by the Devine formula, would give a BMI of 23.0. In Women, the average suggested weight by the Robinson formula, would give a BMI of 21.1.

However, these formulas have no method to compensate for Age and Current Weight. They are only based on Height. For people who are very overweight or obese, the Devine, Robinson and Miller formulas would suggest an ideal weight that is virtually impossible to achieve or maintain through dieting."

I think i look best when i am arounD 11 stone (154lbs) Not fat at all and not too skinny. Eventually i wnat to get there but i will be happy enough to get down to 12st. This is measured purely on how my body looks and not in formula and BMI,....Im a simple creature really!!

I have a suggestion:
If you are really wanting to lose weight...ditch the scale and the "ideal" weight that you want to reach, at least for now.
Buy, or if you have one, a full length mirror. Stand in front of the mirror completely naked. If you see a body that has curves in all the wrong places...you know you are overweight. So get on a plan. Every couple of weeks (I do it maybe every two weeks), stand in front of the mirror naked. IF you like what you see, then continue doing what you are doing. If you don't, you either have to work harder, or change something.

Just MOHO

You could go by 5LBs for every inch over 5 feet and add 100 pounds or go by BMI. Either way is flawed. All I know is at 195 I can already see some of my rib so at 155 I would be skin and bones.

Im 5'11" and currently weigh 304lbs. My measured lean body mass is 200lbs. I would like to be somewhere around 220 - 230 lbs. I have a large bone structure and decent muscle mass.

I'm 5"11, with an extremely heavy bone structure - yes, I know, that's what they all say, but I actually had it confirmed by more than one doctor.
According to my BMI, I should be between 136 and 179 lbs. According to my doctor and a dietitian I recently talked to, at 136 I would be nearly 60 pound underweight, and would have to lose serious amounts of muscle-mass to get to that weight.
So that's nonsense.
The other measuring things put me at around 150 lbs, which is just as bad. After being measured, tested, poked and prodded, my doc and my dietitian both agreed that my goal of 200 lbs is very realistic and should provide me with very good results, both health and looks wise.

So all I can say is....forget about BMI and all that other nonsense. None of the calculators or formulas I've seen so far takes your bone structure or any other factors into account, so the only things you can really go by is how you feel, and if you like what you see in the mirror. If you feel okay, and look okay, then it really doesn't matter what the BMI or your scales say. If anything, check your body fat on top of that...that seems to be the only half-way accurate measurement out of the whole bunch.

I would say NO. It all depends on your frame, sex, height, whether your big boned or small boned, Muscle Mass, ect...

I am 6' and 160 for me is OVER WEIGHT. 162 was my biggest. So 160 lbs is NOT my ideal weight. YIKES!

My ideal weight is around 125-135 lbs.

Just curious... what if you weren't over 5' tall... are you supposed to take 5 pounds off for every inch under 5' you are? lol.

I'm 5'9'' so going by that I should weigh 145... that's a little low for me. My goal weight it 165...

I think you should go on how you look, your muscle and body fat. Also there are other things to take into consideration like sex and even race. Some people, particularly Indigenous people are supposed to be very slim, possibly underweight on some measurements. But in modern society we have to accept a totally different ideal of what slim is. What some people consider to be slim might be very different to what another person thinks.

According to the +5 lbs per inch over 5' rule, I should be 130-135 lbs, which is exactly what I'm going for. I'm probably more shooting for 130 lbs, which means 16 more to lose for me. :)

I don't know if you've ever checked into what your BMI is and would be. But 160 is in the normal weight range for your height. Going all the way down to 130 would put you underweight.

I have also been told that BMI is a load of gobbleDee Gook. 160 may be the normal weight range for a man's height whom is 6', but with all of those things that I've previously stated. I don't think you should worry about me anewaj, you don't know me personally and if you'd like to see what 155 lbs looks like on my height as a smaller boned, small framed female, with no boobs have yourself a look; This was not even my biggest, biggest being 162 lbs. No, I would not be underweight.

I am over weight now too at 150 lbs. When I was 130 lbs my Doctor had no worries nor complaints, I am just tall and lanky.

I know it is truly difficult for people to understand, but it is what it is & thanks for your concern.

I wasn't trying to come off as being a big meanie or something. I think you look great in that pic, a hell of a lot better then I do! My goal weight is 160... and I'm a lot shorter then you, but I'm also larger framed.

I hope you do reach your goal weight. I just, i get overly concerned for people from time to time. (I lose my best friend to Bulimia 3 years ago, and so Idk... i guess I... idk how to explain it.) 130 on a 6' frame to me sound like, whoa... skinny mini. But I can see that weight fitting your body frame.

im 6'2 and 265, i get mistaken for being 225 lbs, I think it all depends on who you are, i think 220 to 230 is right for me, im pretty massive

I am 1.58 meters /around 5'2
and I have a small frame trapped under fat rolls :p lol

current weight is 69/70 kg, or 150/155 lbs.
I should weight 52/54 kg or 115,120 lbs.
