How much running is needed...

Im not looking to bulk up, jet get cut, get rid of fat so I can get a 6pack, etc etc.. I am doing lifting, but at the end of the workout, I use the rest of my energy on running. I have been a lazy bastard for around 3 years, surprisingly im pretty muscular still, but my endurance has diminished to almost nothing. I am slowly building it back up. Today was a milestone for me since I joined the gym a month ago, I did an entire mile (80%running, 20% walking) all in one sitting. My heart rate gets up to around 180, im 18 years old, 180lbs, 5'10". Should I simply keep running until I cant stand anymore? Eventually I would like to run 2 miles nonstop.

nah bro dont run til u are about to die try to set up a program....do HIIT 2-3 times a week so than you wont really have to run on your weight lifting days. Just an idea:D

IMO, I think increasing your running speed by 10% every week, you'll eventually get to your goal. I seen this one guy in my gym do 3 miles on the treadmill in like 20 minutes. Pretty amazing. Hopefully I can do that someday... lol

I am also aiming to get a six-pack abs. But your diet is the utter-most important part of getting it thought. less calories, more protein. I run a lot also. I ran 3 times this week doing HIIT, I haven't seen progress yet because this is my first week doing it. But I think if I keep doing it then I can achieve my goals

Why not use your extra energy on lifting :)

Running 3-4 days a week is enough, don't over train. If running 2 miles is your goal work for that, mix in some HIIT. Be proud of yourself for your accomplishments.

My initial plan had me running before and after lifting, but someone said that the best way to burn fat would be to use up your energy first by lifting, so that when I start running @ the end, I can tap into my fat resources.

That is true, lifting comes first always. When I was cutting, I was doing HIIT 2 times a week, running 2-3 miles after my lifting 3 times a week, and running like 6 or 7 miles on one weekend day. Overtraining is all relative to the individual. Work yourself up slowly, it takes time. Keep your lifting heavy, that is a bigtime fat burner and will keep those muscles around.

^^Simple but to the point and solid advice.^^
