how much of a change?

when i try to go from drinking 3-4 cups of sugary iced tea a day and eating whatever snack foods i want throughtout the day to dieting with a healthy diet of skim milk, raisin bran cereal, grilled chicken with lettuce in a salad, and other stuff like that, the first day i am very very tired and have almost no energy...i end up eating mostly becuz of emotions that i feel duringthis time, that dieting is a waste of time and i will never see results no matter what i do...i have colliding beliefs, i think that to lose weight i gotta eat a very small amount of food per day (1300 calories is what i was trying to go for), but at the same time i kno ive heard that eating more meals throughout the day and going for around 1500 calories is the way to go, but i also feel that this is too much food to lose weight any faster than a pound of two a month, which wont help me at all...

Ive replyed to your other thread in the PT forum.

I think also that you shoud start slower. If your used to eating say 3000cals a day, its gonna be really tough on you and your body to take on half that over night.

Try to work out what you were eatting before and take off 500cals per day. then see how you fare.

I am taking into consederation that you are a young teenager with my reply, but i hope you listen to what i have to say.

You have gotten the right advice here, to do what you need to achieve weight loss. Losing weight fast isn't going to happen. Losing weight easy isn't going to happen. You have to work at it, focus and really care about changing your health, diet, and activity. You shouldn't be "dieting", you should be changing your diet to a healthy, high protien, good carb, low fat style of eating. You have the calories you need to take in a day, you have the method of going about doing it and unlimited resources here. The best for you to do now is to try and apply what you can. Yes it isn't likely that you will in a healthy way lose more than 1.5 to 2 pounds a week. But you are 15 years old, by 16 you can be exactly where you want to be, not so bad honey. Start to try to carry more of a positive attitude towards being healthy. The formula is below.

The best way to drop body fat is to:

1) Eat 5-6 small meals throughout the day. Each meal should be 2-3 hours apart. Each meal should contain one protein and one carb. The first meal should be eaten within an hour after waking.

2) Drink lots of water

3) Rest properly. This means taking at least 24-48 hours between strength training the same muscles, and it also means getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night. Lastly, it means taking 1-2 days off from exercising per week.

4) Cardio. This should be done at different intensity levels and different session lengths. Consider doing a low intensity/long session, a high intensity/short session and a few medium intensity/medium length sessions.

5) Strength Training. Strength train each muscle 1-3 times per week. You should lift a proper weight and perform the proper amount of sets/reps for your strength training method. Switch your routine every 4-6 weeks.

all of those i can do except for the 5-6 meals with 2-3 hours apart, i have school mon-fri and its hard to have something like that under those cercumstances

Well a college friend of mine does this...

7:30am-(pre-school) Oatmeal and egg white omlete
11:30 am- (packed lunch) Tuna pouch on whole grain bread and fruit/protien shake
3:00: (pre-work) Chicken breast wrap
6:00: (work) Protien bar/turkey cheese wrap
10:00 (home) Chicken breast salad

Put some effort and creativity to it. You can find ways to get in food every few hours. She finds a way to get it done with school and work.

Eating frequently

As theleip suggested, try to find a way to work around your schedule. You could eat right before you went to school, eat at your normal lunch hour, then eat as soon as you get home. Then have your dinner 2-3 hours after that, and have another snack a couple hours after dinner.

I have always been health conscious but I used eat only 2-3 times a day. I had no energy, plus I was cranky all the time. Now I eat 6 times a day and I have high energy. I don't know if I could ever go back to the way I used to eat.

Include a portion of complex carb at every meal or snack, for instance don't just have a grilled chicken salad. Have a slice of whole wheat bread or a whole wheat pita with the salad. Total Raisin Bran is ok, but not the best choice IMO. From what I remember it has a lot of sugar in it. Go for 2 slices of whole wheat toast or a whole wheat english muffin with some egg whites. Or some plain or low sugar oatmeal with egg whites. From my experience, I've gained a lot of energy when I cut out high-sugar cereals and foods.

And yes exercise!
