How much can I improve?

I've been casually training for a job with the local police force by running 400s, 200s, and 100m sprints. Tonight, a coach was at the local track with another group and gave me a couple pointers. He timed my last 100m sprint at 11.2s. He was impressed and suggested that I continue training to run competitively.

I'm 30 years old, 6' tall, 185 lbs, with a somewhat lean/lanky build. I've always done well with running but never done it competitively (aside from a few 5ks or marathon relays). My initial reaction is that I'm too damn old to run against guys 10 years younger than me. But out of curiosity, if I were to routinely train and perhaps enlist the help of a running coach, what would be a reasonable target? Have I peaked at 11.2? Or could I possible make it down to say, the high 10s with proper training, coaching, diet, etc?

Thanks for any insight! I'm a noob here, so any thoughts, suggestions, etc are appreciated.
