How many calories should I be eating per day?

I'm 6 foot tall, male, 235 lbs. I was wondering what a good calorie range for me would be to gradually lose weight (my goal is somewhere around 175 lbs). I've heard minimum numbers like 1200 calories or 1500 calories for men and things like that. But, what is the consensus? I want to eat enough to not starve myself too much because I know that would be short lived, but still lose the weight. Any input is appreciated.
 
Really depends on the person there's no hard consensus, but 10xbody weight usually works for a safe deficit. So that would be 2350 calories a day for you. If it doesn't work, go lower by a few hundred, if you get too hungry then raise it a few hundred. You'll need to keep re-adjusting it though of course, so when you get down to 190 pounds you'll need to be doing 1900 calories, etc etc...In any case I'd avoid going below 1500 at your weight, to be safe I wouldn't even go below 2000 at 235lb but that's just me.
