Well I started my diet on July 17th I have lost about 9lbs I feel better already but i was wondering how much weight you had lost before you guys started to see the loss. I'm not expecting to see it yet I know it takes time but just curious to your experiences.

When I lost about 20 pounds (10% of my body weight at the time), I started to notice it a lot. Regular things like standing up and sleeping and stretching became so much easier. (I couldn't stretch at my highest weight because the rolls of fat got in the way.) Right now after 30 pound weight loss I feel a lot different.

I wouldn't say I see myself differently though, but that's because I'm still obese and have a long way to go.

Well, partially it depends on your starting weight. For example, if you started at 130, then you'd probably see a 9 pound loss pretty easily. If you started at 300, then it probably wouldn't really show.

Then it depends on your body, on how you carry the weight and where it comes off of first. And on how realistic your body image is.

For me personally, I started off at 220 and I'm now about 175. That's about a 45 pound loss and I still have trouble seeing it. Oh, my clothes are way too big on me (I can't even wear my old jeans, they fall off!) AND when I see pictures of myself from last year, I am amazed at how fat I look. Plus, everyone tells me that they are amazed at how much I've lost, even people who didn't know I was trying to lose weight. But when I look in the mirror, I just don't see much difference.

I think that's because for a long time I wouldn't admit to myself how big I had gotten. At my heaviest, I'd see pics of myself and think "I'm not that big! I just take awful pictures!" I'd see larger women and think "wow, see? I'm not so bad." I think my body now is finally about what I thought it was then. Does that make any sense?

I'm sure this question will have been answered before but I couldn't find anything when I searched the forum. I'm not great at choosing key words though... Anyway...

Well when I lost 50lbs last time round, I personally didn't really see anything til I was 40lbs in. Other people noticed earlier than that though, maybe after the first 20lbs.

I think weight loss is also in the eye of the beholder. My mum seems to notice when I've lost just a few lbs (then she interogates me about not eating enough ha).

Another thing to bear in mind is where you ususally lose weight from first (I think that weight lost from your face is most noticeable) and how big you are, as bigger people need bigger losses to appear smaller.

Usually if you are obese you will see a huge difference and when you are just 'normal overweight' it will take a while to notice the difference. Also personal view skews perception. I still have some kilos to shed but my mother thinks I'm skinny while my sister thinks I need to shed a few pounds too.
