I never eat breakfast- I usually just have a coffee- A friend suggested by skipping breakfast- Ill cause my body to be tired for the rest of the day, and it may dampen my abilities to lose weight..
Is this true? I always looked as breakfast an an unimportant meal...

I've always considered breakfast to be the most important meal of the day. Over the last few weeks, I've altered my breakfast so it's as healthy, filling and full of nutrients as possible. My take on breakfast is that it "sets you up for the day" by refuelling your body after several hours of not eating anything. There's no way I could function without a decent breakfast.

breakfast I'm convinced has made a big difference with me - look at it this way - (and I say this often around here)you wouldn't start ac ar and run it without any fuel in it why woudl you start your body without fuel?

there are a bunch of threads in the nutrition section onideas for quick breakfasts onthe go -and it doesn't have to even be breakfast food.... but ithink it's definitely important

Breakfast a must.

Important enough I had to sign on to let you know how important breakfast is. I know it helps kick start my lazy azz along with a multi-vitamin, b-12 supplement, and vitamin c dose. Exactly why, I 'm not going to speculate but that what the health community states and its their job to know and do the research, seeing I am not a health I'm not going to argue.

I found this quote on a website:

When you've been asleep for 8 or so hours, you haven't eaten for at least 8 hours, possibly more like 10 or 11 hours. This means your body is really low on amino acids and carbs, both something you want to have floating around in your body to stay anabolic. The best way to break the starvation (!) of your muscles is to have a hearty breakfast as soon as possible as you wake up. Also, if you work out early in the day, it's extra important to get a lot of carbs with your breakfast, as you'll need it to fuel your workout.

When you're asleep, your metabolism slows down. To get it started again you need to eat breakfast. It's important for people who want to lose weight. If your metabolism is slow, how are you gonna be able to burn fat and lose weight?

Eat breakfast!

Ultimately, it's your energy balance that will determine whether you lose weight or gain it. In other words, if you ate 2,500 calories in one meal a day, and expended 3,000 calories a day, you would lose about a pound a week.

Yes, spreading your meals out makes a difference in your metabolism, and there are some studies that show that it wards of catabolism, but we shouldn't overplay the role of this, either. In other words, it will have a small overall effect on the total number of calories consumed.

It's somewhat like the "thermal effect of food." There are some foods, eg celery, that take as many calories to digest as they have. The thermal effect of that food is such that celery is practically a "free food." But in the real world, you can't sustain yourself on celery.

So will not having breakfast make a gigantic difference to your energy balance? No, not in itself.

But it may have a bid effect on your overall success. Why? Because as others have pointed out here, you are prolonging your fasted state by another 4 or 5 hours. This means that if you are in a caloric deficit, your metabolism is that much more likely to use your lean body mass as fuel, since there's nothing in the "furnace."

Also, you may find yourself eating less overall as you spread your meals out. Eating a good breakfast and a morning snack may leave you partially satiated for lunch, so that instead of having a 1,200 calorie lunch, you are completely satisfied with a 600 calorie lunch.

A hearty breakfast has become a part of my post-weight loss lifestyle. Every morning I tuck into a large bowl of porridge oats (US English = oatmeal or rolled oats), usually made with milk, and with raisins, seeds and a banana added. Not letting myself go hungry is also a part of my lifestyle, and that starts with a decent breakfast.

Titanic, try to get some protein and/or fiber in that breakfast, too! I'm not familiar with Vegamite -- does it have both of those?

Vegemite is made from leftover brewers' yeast extract, a by-product of beer manufacturing... .... my opinion - beer is better :) it's also wicked salty...

I lived in Australia for a time- and I got hooked on Vegamite- Aussies are addicted to the stuff..Its like English Marmite- just not as sharp-but i love it......

Im trying to cut out meats because port, steak and burgers are what packed on my fat..The only 'meat' i will eat is fish- No more chicken , pork or beef for me...
No more cows milk either- I love vanalla soy milk...

The whole day is a reflex of your breakfast, if you have a nice, complete breakfast, you'll have more energy the all day and you'll not feel so hungry in the day. It is the most important meal
