How I lost 27 pounds in 2 months without dieting

I started going back to the gym again 2 months ago and weighed 222 pounds. I have been going to the gym 5 days a week and pushing myself a lot with the weights but also doing 20 minutes of cardio everyday. I weigh 195 now. My diet is I eat whatever I feel like and I drink a lot of beer. The thing is, I don't need to diet at all to lose weight. I am confident I will get down to 180 soon that is my goal. My arms are also getting a lot bigger and it feels good to notice your body changing.

Frankly this is is pretty hard to believe. 20 minutes a day is pretty minimal cardio. At most you're burning 200-300 calories in 20 minutes and that's really pushing it. Multiply that by 5 and that's 1500 calories a week max. And weights aren't really a weight loss method. So if you're burning 2000-3000 calories a week, you might lose a pound a week. Can't possibly see how that could cause you to lose 27 pounds in 2 months.

Weights are important to weight loss. Also, if he lost about 3lbs a week that would put him at 24 pounds in 2 months.
The only part I have trouble believing is the eating whatever he wants. But from some of the ways i've seen some of my friends lose weight, I wouldnt count out anything. lol

he could have a high metabolism but then that wouldn't explain why use to be overweight...Hmm IDK sounds weird to me also... :S

Sure weight training is an essential part of any exercise program but it's certainly not going to burn the kind of calories you'd need to lose that much weight, that fast without changing your diet. Barring some vast metabolic change or illness, the numbers just don't add up.

For a man, to weight 222, its not so obese that you could drop a big number like that by just making those little changes. Now, someone thats 350/400 lbs or so...its more realistic.

agreed plus he said he is doing 20 mins of cardio which is most is 400-500 calories if on an incline at its peak. In addiition, he says he has made no change in what he eats and drinks a lot of beer. IMO even if he posts pics I would not believe it's him

Well he left a lot up in the air. 5 days a week of hitting the weights hard could be an hour and a half a day of intense weight lifting with 20 minutes of cardio as well. Eat whatever he feels like could be fruit and salad, plus he still drinks a lot of beer.

completely false

weights can make a HUGE impact on caloric burn. I don't do a lick of cardio. my metabolism is well over 3000 calories a day to maintain. All I do is weight train and I lift only 5 hours a week. I estimate weights has added 1000 calories a day to my food needs to maintain from when I wasn't lifting.

I stand by my claim and take offense that you label it completely false. You cannot lose the kind of weight the OP claimed with minimal cardio no matter how much weight training you do. I'm talking about losing large amounts of weight not maintaining it. Name one person who has lost a lot of weight by weight training.

cungar - you really don't know what you're talking about. I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but you really need to do more research before you make absolutist statements like the above. It is more than possible to lose weight w/out doing traditional cardio. You can burn a helluva lot of calories lifting weights ... and 45 mins of lifting weights (if you lift heavy) is just the same as a HIIT type of cardio workout.

Between the increased heart rate of lifting and the increased muscle mass, you can easily burn enough calories just lifting weights and never have to do a bit of traditional running/elliptical/biking type of cardio.

i could care less if you take offense or not. the point is, you can get a huge caloric burn lifting weights. which makes what I said correct no matter how offended you are about it. i would hope you would agree with that the key to losing fat is calories in < calories out. Caloric burn is caloric burn, regardless of the source.

The reason why most people fail to get the level of burn from lifting weights is because they do not go at a proper intensity. Unless you're consistently using the bodies atp-cp and lactic acid based energy systems to do work, (which most people don't because they go for rep ranges well above 12) you're not going at an intensity to really stoke the furnace if you will.

The reason cardio works so well for a lot of people is because it's the easiest way to exercise. but it's FAR from the best. Exercise that makes use of the bodies atp-cp and lactic acid energy systems (ie: lifting weights) are far superior for fat loss. cardio does not make use of these systems...

Good discussion so far. Perhaps the thing Cungar is upset about is the statement about drinking and eating as much as he wants. That could be an exaggerated statement and one that is touchy to many of us because that is how a lot of us became fat to begin with. I for one do believe the amount lost as well as the means, but I question the statement regarding the eating and drinking. I have been burning over 4000 calories per week from exercise over the past month yet I have gained 4 lbs because I am barely eating more than usual. If I ate and drank as much as I wanted I can't imagine how much weight I would have put on.

This may be the worst type of post to newbie post in but I've been doing nothing but weight training twice a week and I've lost 28lbs in three and a half months. Not quite as fast but no cardio, very little dieting, and overall not as much weight training as people tend to recommend. Some people's bodies just react faster.

For fairness sake I should tell ya'll I lost 45lbs in three months once just biking and I was eating like a hog the whole time. Cardio is awesome too.

The 18 and 4 diet, has any one diet it

I started the 18 in 4 diet today, I hate it and its only my first day.. I am going to stick with it until the end.. Has anyone ever did this diet before???

lol ok I can see why it might be a little hard to believe. I wouldnt lie about this though. I am just proud of myself for losing the weight and wanted to post how I was doing. I call it the coors light diet, and I can elaborate on how I lost the weight. I only spend about 1 hour at the gym a day, sometimes 2 if I am feeling really really motivated. So 40 minutes of intense weight training and 20 minutes of HIT cardio training. If you don't know what HIT is google it because it is hard to explain. On top of doing that at the gym I also have a job where I work really hard and am always moving around.. and I usually goto the gym right before work or after (8 hour shifts). So basicly my body never stops and I am burning up a lot of calories throughout the day. I also drink on average 15 glasses of water a day which helps a lot with weight loss and prevents me from being really hungover the next day.. which moves me along to the coors light diet. With the coors light diet I prefere to go about 6 to 8 beers a day... and it is important to wash down the silver bullet with a nice pizza or a juicy burger. I eat about 4 to 5 times a day which actually boosts your metabolism a lot more then going the standard 3 meals a day (read that in a mens fitness magazine) Call me a liar if you want, but youl never know for yourself until you try out the coors light diet. Also I had a personal trainer at the gym tell me that weight training burns up a lot of calories and might even be better for you then doing cardio so the dude that said he preferes weight training over cardio did know what he was talking about (personal trainers dont lie) Things I recommend when following the coors light diet: pizza, burgers, french fries, tacos, obviously coors light (heineken is acceptable sometimes), or whatever the f you feel like! The moral of the story here is, if you keep yourself moving all day you can eat whatever you want and still lose the weight it just takes a lot of hard work.

p.s.

Oh yeah... I forgot to mention I smoke a lot of pot daily so I dont know if that helps a person with weight loss or not.
