Actually, that's about 66 yards, and very good for that age. When I was 14 I reached about 6' 2'' and decided I wanted to play quarterback. I began throwing everyday and developed arm strength that allowed me to throw 70 yards - fairly accurately. So, a 14 year old CAN throw 70 yards. However, arm strength is only going to serve you well if you can find your receiver. Poise, intelligence, accuracy then arm-strength. One of the most difficult aspects of quarterbacking for me early on was gaining poise. At first, the game rushes by quickly and you can't tell your wide receiver from the defender, but over time you get comfortable and gain confidence. The game begins to slow down for you and you start seeing things in slow motion. You understand where defenders are in relation to your receivers and you find yourself picking the defense apart. In high school, timing patterns and passes are really the only way to succeed due to the lack of protection high school quarterbacks receive. Work on your 3-step drop and 5 yard patterns - get in sinc with your receivers. A quick release is vital. You've got to know the defense your up against - blitzes, coverages... know what pattern your receiver is running, and time the pass to arrive just when he makes his break.
