How do you tone/get rid of back and hip fat?

I've noticed lately as I've lost weight that it's mostly coming from my waist and upper body. Does anyone have some suggestions on back and hip targeted exercises with free weights or anything?

Thanks!

There are some things you can do if you aren't carrying a lot of extra fat to help the process along from the stubborn areas... but again you have to be pretty lean for it to be effective.

MachinaCognitan, I've got the same problem :waving:, but I sort of accepted  that in order to have nice looking legs I'll have to sacrifice my bosoms

Ha, it's too complex to get into. Suffice it to say there's a way to go about doing cardio with a mixture of steady state and interval training that will help mobilize fatty acids from your problem spots better than anything else. Some supplementation are good too.

But you really have to be lean for this to work properly. It's for someone such as a physique competitor who needs to be more lean for a show, or something like that.

Arent there some exercises that can at least firm your lower back or is this a job for aerobic/ cardio workouts??

You can 'firm' any skeletal muscle in your body, assuming you mean grow when you say firm.

The problem is that doesn't do anything for the fat on top of the muscle.

Thanks for the replies! I still have considerable weight to lose, so it's not like I've given up the possibility that they won't come off naturally through my continuation of fat loss. I guess I was just looking for a way to step up what I'm doing to target those just a bit, but I still have time before I start worrying about them staying as permanent fixtures - so thank-you to everyone!!!

As with most traditional Chinese health exercises, the hip, thigh and waist exercises listed below are easy to learn, simple to do and, most importantly, effective. They can be done alone or in combination with one or more others to slim your hips and waist and tone, stretch and strengthen your thighs.

Regularly doing these exercises offers other benefits too. As the mid section of your body contains your digestive, excretory and reproductive organs, you may experience improvements in digestion, bowel movements and sexual health, for instance. Check with your health professional first though before trying any new exercises, especially if you have a history of back or hip problems, or you haven't exercised for some time.

Hip Swivel: An exercise to slim your hips & waist that also limbers & loosens your lower back and hip joints.

Back Twist: Looking for love handle exercises? The Back Twist slims your hips and waist, stretches your back and stimulates digestion and blood flow.

Thigh Burner: A powerful leg and inner thigh exercise that stretches and strengthens. Also strengthens your pelvic area and firms your butt.

Forward Lunge: A thigh stretching exercise that loosens & strengthens the thighs, ankles and lower back.

Bodyweight Squats: Squats are a powerful way to build your thighs, strengthen your lower back and abs, firm your butt, develop stamina, and more.

Waist Exercises: The Forward-Backward Bend is one of the best waist exercises you can do. It tones, stretches and strengthens your abdominals, waist, hips, thighs and lower back.

hope it helps :)

Wow, thank-you! Those seem amazing! I kind of started getting that idea from some of the random movements I've been doing and noticing some changes on my body! Now that I know some of theory behind them, I can start incorporating them daily into my exercise!

Thank-you so much :)

Sounds like an ancient Chinese secret?

I figure as your weight drops, it will drop from all over (to a certain degree). I am much more of an hourglass now than the pear I was back in July. However, I assume that my bottom half will always be more *ahem* "ample" than my top half, and that any extra fat I retain or put on will go directly onto my rear!

Good luck
