How do you make treadmill NOT SO BORING?

I can handle running out of breath.
I can handle legs aching.
But I really cannot handle being so BORED on the treadmill!!

When I began listening to music it was better, but now I have grown immune(?) to that, even. And as I get bored I notice MORE that I'm running out of breath or that my legs hurt.

Are there any ideas on how to make workout on the treadmill not so boring?
 
I know what you mean, I was thinking about trying to read (and listen to music). At my gym, there is a TV there, so I can watch that too. Other than that, there isn't much to do. You could listen to a podcast or an audio book perhaps.
 
Ah yus the dreaded treadmil. Well I tried watching T/V playing games
music, reading, painting my nails, The list just keeps going on and on.
Finally I decided to start walking outside. Time flys by, and it really
does help. You should try that instead, I thought I'd hate it
but it gets addicting and you wanna end up walking for hours, well
thats what happened to me. And after walking for a few weeks
I tried the treadmil again and it wasn't so bad not as boring. Just
switch it up.
 
Well, my mom won't let me walk outside because it's too dark and cold, and when I'm outside I don't run as fast.

But thanks for the helpful tips, though. I'm constructing a playlist for the treadmill workout, adding song by song onto my weight diary. :)
 
Hi! Where are you working out? If you work out at the gym, I think your best bet is to have a gym buddy, so you can have someone to talk to. You said that listening to music has helped, maybe you can try a different genre of music. Another is maybe you can watch a movie on an ipod or something. Hope this helps :)
 
Like QuickThinker said, I'd try watching a movie or a show on the television at the gym or on your iPod. I always find watching TV makes the time go by WAY faster. If there's nothing good on, I always have a magazine and my music. I know sometimes you run out of things to read so I'll just stare at the pretty girl on the cover and I tell myself that her body is hot because she works out. It keeps you going. :)

This may also sound super crazy but I always plan out my outfits of what I want to wear when I'm going out with my friends later on in the week. I think about how I want my makeup done, what shoes to wear, how I'm going to pose for photos. It all sounds crazy but it keeps me entertained and makes the time go by super quickly. :) GOOD LUCK!

I workout at home, and the treadmill is too far from the television for me to watch. Besides, it makes too much noise for me to understand what they're saying on TV.

I've tried reading, but I just move too much. Kind of motion sickness.

As for planning stuff, that sounds like a pretty good idea!
 
I like to put on closed captioning and read the tv while listening to music. goes by super fast. I put in the office which I LOVE. I also have my ipod with up beat music (cascada, latin music, lady gaga).

I also like setting goals for myself, and try to beat my last times. But goals that are only like 2 min. max so that i keep myself entertained. I also play around with the ramp.

I love to dance too, so i put on good dance music and make up dances in my head...probably doesnt work for everyone but it super fun!
 
oh I also try to memorize the words to songs like "we didn't start the fire" or something silly like that. just to keep my mind off the fact that i am running
 
if you can read while on the treaadmill, you're probably not working at a decent level of intensity...

Try doing interval training while on the treadmill -suggested programs are easy tofind on either the men's health or women's health websites... it passes the time and gives yo a much better workout

or do something other than the treadmill
 
I've had this problem before too. Now I put on some of my favourite songs and run to the beat. I also try to beat my records and do intervals to keep myself busy. It always helps to set yourself a challenge before you step on the treadmill and see what you can accomplish!
 
Intervals keeps it excited...for 1 interval you can walk, then walk faster, jog, run, clime up some high hills, jog up a hill, skip...sing...if you're in a gym you may get some stares with that one but it makes the TM enjoyable.
 
I tend to get too knackered before I get to the bored stage lol but I try to vary it by doing say 10 mins, then go ride a bike or do some weights and then come back and do another 10 and so forth. 10 mins goes really fast, sometimes I stay on longer but listening to music definitely helps for me.
 
When im on my treadmill at home i just stick on the music channels and move along the same rhythm as themusic . as my treadmill is a manual treadmill it means i can go as fast or as slow as i want but id suggest moving along to the same beat as the music and having fun with it :D ..
 
I have a solution, but whether it is possible or not is another question! Get an absolutely amazing hunk to stand in front of your treadmill and run towards hum :party:
 
I would tend to agree with trying to break up a jogging session. 30 minutes on a treadmill is terrible, but 10 minutes 3 different times, for me, is a lot easier to handle. TV with captions and/or wireless headphones helps a lot too.

Another suggestion that I haven't personally tried, but I know people who have, is to listen to audio books as you jog. Boring+boring=/= exciting in my book, but some people enjoy it hah.


Still, whenever weather etc permits, I prefer to jog outside....
 
I dont get a good workout when I am outside, treadmill has incline, all the trails around here are fairly flat.

I use music to keep me motivated and intervals.
 
I don't listen to the same music every time. I completely understand what you mean by becoming immune to the music lol, So I make about 2-3 different gym playlist (I use Itunes), so that helps keep it fresh.
 
1- TV
2- DVD watch a movie !
3- Listening to music by using ipod
4- talk to your sister/brother if they were in the same room
5- radio
6- don't look at the time or how much left to finish every few mins

I always choose number 1 or 3 and somtimes 4
