how do you keep yourself motivated?

Just curious what everyone does to keep themselves motivated? I have so many problems keeping myself on track, too many excuses, or too easily tempted into sugary fatty foods (night shift worker...it comes with the territory!).

Any ideas or thoughts to share?

With every pound I lose I gain motivation to do more. Right now I'm just motivated because it's almost spring and I can't wait to wear my new smaller clothes.

I walk into the bathroom and close the door. I light some candles and turn on some smooth jazz. I slowly get undressed. I take a deep breath and then look down towards the floor. As I look towards the floor, I realize that I can't see my twinkie, which motivates me to lose weight, so I can, hopefully, see my own penis someday.

That is what motivates me. Oh, that, and the fact that I'll never ever get to have sex again with the way I look now. I look like a pregnant Drew Carey. What girl wants to get close to that? Eww.

I'm sorry, but that made me giggle.

.

For me, I either exercise every day (especially 30-40 minutes after every meal and minimum 1 hour before bed time) or my BG numbers go into mandatory "D" medication. Being a T2 diabetic sucks at times. Exercise and stay off the needle? Get lazy and be put on a painful and expensive needle? mmmmm.... Think I'd rather do daily exercise... That's what keeps me motivated every day.

I posted the same thing in another thread actually! So THIS is what keeps me motivated..

1. I always keep in mind how I want to look a month/2months/a year down the line. It's all about looking at the big picture before I put something in my mouth that I might regret.

2. Another thing that has kept me motivated is the 'Fear of starting ALL over again'. I don't think I want to go through all this from scratch ever again.

3. I know people say that it's bad to weigh yourself too often but believe me the scale is one thing that won't ever lie to you so I weighed myself weekly for the first month or so and seeing the numbers go down keep me VERY motivated!

That is real motivation, specialy numero 2, that is hardest thing in life, starting all over again. Every time is worst. Thanks for that, that was the thing I forgot, unfortunately!

I have stumbled a few times doing this but I guess I keep going because I hate to fail at anything! I know in doing this it give me a better chance to live a longer healthier life with my wife. I want to be there to take care of her...not her taking care of me.

This quote from Vince Lombardi helps me alot..hope it does you too.

"The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall. "

I find that keeping a food diary keeps me honest, knowing that I'll have to write down anything bad at the end of the day kinda makes me think twice about those foods I need to avoid.

Also, as someone else mentioned, I weigh myself every day. I'm not unrealistic and do expect fluctuations in the number but it makes me more determined each time to keep at it and stay on the path.

Keeping motivated

1. Sex. No...I'm serious. I like sex with my partner and I want to keep it fun without all the hang-ups. I don't want to keep stressing about how I look and feel to him...so to avoid all that? Keep the food healthy, and keep active.

2. I, too, weigh myself often. Twice a week is good for me. It does keep me in check. If others aren't into that, I don't have a problem with that. But weighing myself often works for me.

3. Thinking about my mum. I loved my mum but she pissed me off being so unhealthy and ultimately killing herself by eating so much crap. I don't ever want to live like she lived.

4. Op shops. I'm not huge into fashion and I don't particularly need the latest trend. Walking into an op shop and looking at all the clothes I couldn't fit into a year ago...and then walking out with a "new" wardrobe in a smaller size for less than $20...? Fabulous! That absolutely keeps me motivated!

When I'm about to go buy chocolate I think about how the satisfaction from that last about 2 minutes while I'm eating it, whereas I can feel greater satisfaction fitting into all my smaller clothes. Also I think about how 2 minutes of chocolate isn't worth feeling shitty the rest of the day as well as setting myself back so that it will be even longer before I can eat a cookie guilt free. I tell myself once I'm where I want to be and it's just about maintaining I can eat things I like once in a while, I just want to get the hard part over with real bad.

The best thing you can do is to sit down and write out some long and short term goals. Outline how you are going to get there and give yourself a time frame. Then, think of some ways you can reward yourself for making changes.

Motivation will then start flowing!

Biggest Loser Book

I find the hardest thing to motivate myself about is the excercise. I find it easier to stick to my diet, but get demotivated if im putting in a lot of work but not seeing results. I weigh myself often to keep me motivated but that can be like a double edged sword some days.
I think i just have to learn patience. Its not going to happen overnight is it!!

So im really keen too to hear how people motivate themselves to excercise.

I know about the biggest loser and how its not realistic blah blah and that they do 4-8hrs a day. So most of the biggest loser books that are out i dont think would reflect what their diet and excercise is really like behind the scenes.
However they have one book: 'The biggest Loser Success Secrets - The Wisdom, Motivation, and Inspiration to lose weight - And keep it off!

Just wondering if anyone has read or owns this book? Im wondering if it has any good things to keep us motivated. I mean you would really have to be motivated to do the biggest loser for real. I wonder how they stay motivated, especially after doing such crazy workouts all week, and then having weeks where they lose tiny or no pounds, or even gain. How do they motivate themselves to carry on????

If anyone has this book, and if there are any good motivational tips, i would love to hear about them!!!

This morning I went through an old box of photos and picked out 5 photos that sum me up.

There was the metal head photo, the travel photo, the big kid photo, the muso photo and the artist photo.

I look so happy in all of them and that's because I was. I when they were taken I was at a really good time in my life, about 4 years ago, and I was at my healthiest weight ever, about 60kg.

I'm using those photos to keep me motivated. Even though i'm a long way off (current 99kg!!!!) I know that I can be that girl again (and I still am on the inside!).
