How do you do it?

You are at a resturant or at home and are eating something you love; you know you need to have a small piece of it because you are controlling portions but you are tempted what do you do now? How do you excercise control in such a situation? How do you get your self from putting that extra piece or a second helping which could ruin your calorie count for the day? I am really struggling with this and any help/advise would help.
 
To sum it up.....

I have seen this in many posts, signatures and motivational phrases.....

Nothing tastes as good as thin feels.

All about priorities. For me I ask myself what I want more, that brief quick-fix of pleasure that second helping will give me, or looking in the mirror everyday and loving what I see.....

Exactly. The food is only going to taste good for a couple minutes at most, yet will continually make you feel crappy about yourself. I'd rather give up those extra couple minutes of deliciousness and feel good about myself EVERY minute of the day!

Why do you NEED to have a small piece? Don't you mean you WANT to have a small piece?

The mindset makes all the difference.
