 Ok so It's 8:00 Im watching my favorite primetime shows and O my god here it comes THE MUNCHIES what can I eat to satisfy these craving and keep my mouth busy so I don't chew my fingers off? My husband and I are big on our "snack" any suggestions for snaking Thanks :)

I dont know if this will help, but sometimes I will eat sunflower seeds or nuts with shells on them. It slows me down and keeps me from overeating. I could snuff out a bag of chips in no time, but eating nuts takes effort and patience. haha

Sometimes I'll chew gum too. This won't sound too appetizing, but drinking water when you have the munchies helps reduce hunger sometimes.

I hope you get some good suggestions because I get hit with the munchies all the time and could use some new ideas too. I think my body is catching on to my tricks. haha

Thanks MISSJELLYBELLY I did the shelled peanuts last night as I was fantasizing about DOVE ice cream YUMMMMMMMY. I sometimes grab a bag of baby carotts that satifies sometimes. I chew gum during the day.I don't work because of multiple back surgery's so I am constantly looking to snack, hence the 70lb weight gain. I am shopping today and I am going to get fresh vegies and make lowfat ranch dip. that will keep me happy for a couple days LOL. Thanks so much for the ideas;)

usually something crunchy does it for me like dill pickle spears or carrots.

homemade ranch sounds so good. You know, it's funny you mention that because that is the only way I can really ever eat carrots--when they are dipped in ranch. Yeah, I could naw on carrots for a while.

Peanuts are the shiz! Mmmm. I can almost taste that salty goodness right now. haha Have a good day.

Sometimes what works for me is to brush my teeth & rinse shortly after dinner...I get in my pjs & relax...or I allow myself a cup of decaf tea for my treat but no food past dinner...It is hard but Ive heard more and more it makes a big dif in the scale at the end of the week

I have this problem too! Mike is in great shape (he has a physical job) and can literally eat anything and not gain weight. So... we'll be watching TV at night and he'll want to make wings, or nacho's or something so good. He's gotten more understanding lately and won't suggest snacks, but I might have a couple once a week or so. If i'm totally hungry though I will eat pickles, or i absolutely love the no fat cheese singles, so i'll have a couple of those (I know... not the same as nacho's but...) At work it's usually a rice cake, or baby carrots.

What seems to work for me is something warm, so I sometimes make the lipton cup a soup (it comes in an envelope), for weight watchers, it is only 1 point. I also go for the fruit cups, they are pretty good. Jolly ranchers hard candy is really good, because they stay in your mouth for so long. Good luck :)

I just went to the store and found some Quaker rick snacks (caramel Corn) they are pretty good and you can have 7 of them for only 60 calories.

I've found that frozen strawberries work as a great snack for me because it takes a while to eat them and they are cold like ice cream. If I want something salty, I go for a low-fat popcorn. Weight Watchers has some really great desserts that are low calorie and low fat if you like frozen treats. You can also go to Dottie's Weight Loss Zone at and view hundreds of recipes for low-cal and low-fat snacks, desserts, meals, whatever. It's a great resource and it even lays out the healthier selections at restaurants and fast food places for when you get that "run for the border" craving late at night. Hope this helps. Munchies are the worst but I know you can quench those cravings in a healthy way! ;)

i just love fruit... so i throw it in as much as I can.. especially pineapple! cut yourself up some apple slices OR pomegranate.. that'll keep you busy for a while!! :)

Sweetdaisy suggested low fat popcorn, which is one thing we do for snacking.

ACT II Mini Bags 94% Fat Free Butter popcorn (I buy it cheap at Wal-Mart) has 100 calories per popped bag and makes several cups of popcorn. 1.5g total fat, 0 g sat fat, 0 g trans fat, 0 mg chol, 150 mg sodium, 21 g carb, 2 g dietary fiber, 3 g protein and 4% iron.

Why snack? If I'm hungry, I'll just eat an extra meal. A piece of skinless chicken, a few servings of vegetables. 300 calories or so of pure nutrition and protein. So 4 300 calorie meals that day instead of 3? Still only 1,200 calories.

Go Bananas

This seems to fit this thread...

Banana Ice Cream! If you let frozen bananas thaw for about 15 minutes, you can chunk them (which is good, too), and/or use regular beaters to mix them to an ice creamy consistency.

Like the others point out...a little work...burns some calories...makes the reward sweeter.

The Champion Juicer does nice work, too, but that costs money, and seems like cheating.

Enjoy!

Popcorn is a great way to go! (but not the microwaved pre-done stuff)

Take a brown paper lunch bag. Put about 1/4 cup unpopped popcorn in the bag. Microwave until you don't hear popping. Then a way that I butter it is: take butter flavored cooking spray and a little seasoning salt. YUMMM

other ideas to add

Hi All -

I love sitting playing my computer games with my husband, and we found that a veggie platter helps. Just a quick dip with a little extra added salt helps. It seems to take the edge of needing crunchy salty stuff.
Popcorn, 94% fat free works out great*(sprinkle lightly some parmesan cheese on it) and if you want icecream, I found that freezing fat free, sugar free pudding works out great. :)

Thanks,
JDI

Just curious.. how many calories are in that home-made bag of popcorn? My mother eats the premade microwave stuff and that is bad!

What about chips and salsa, you can get some chips that are lower in fat than others and salsa has very little calories.
