How did I drop 4 lbs in 3 days?

I am really confused. When I weighed myself on January 1st I was 134.2 lbs. I weighed myself this morning (3 days later) and I am 130.8 lbs. Is that even possible to lose that amount of weight in so little time, or is my scale not working? I suppose I could have lost water weight because I haven't been good about drinking water, and I have drank a lot the past few days, but I dunno. Does anyone have any insight?

Sure you could, there are several reasons. that is one reason people don't usually don't weigh themselves daily. The most likely reason is what you already say..water loss. Check in a few days for a better indicator.

Body water fluctuations, food in gut, feces unexpelled, urine unexpelled, dehydration or hydration, fat loss, muscle loss -- many variables account for fluctuations in weight. I like using a Google home page gadget for charting weight

because it plots a moving average-- staying below a moving average is more important than fluctuations. I weigh myself daily, keeps me accountable, but I realize there will be apparent plateaus and fluctuations.

Thanks for the reply :) I used to weigh myself daily, but it drove my nuts and made me too obsessive so I stopped. Today was my first time weighing myself since my initial weigh in.

Thanks Steve, that was a great write up :) I took my measurements this morning and will try to use those rather than weight as a reference to my progress. I agree, weighing yourself constantly can totally drive you nuts. I remember when I was dieting before and I saw gained a pound when I did my weekly weigh in, but I had actually lost an inch off of my waist.

Thanks for the tip Randall :) I'll definitely check out the google weight tracker. It sounds like a great tool.

I know its hard but try and weigh yourself weekly and then you will really see something you want to work towards, little by little week by week. next thing you know its 7 pounds and then a stone!! you will have such a good feeling about yourself.

Another thing I like to do is not use scales and just look into a mirror every couple of weeks and you will notice the difference!
