i was at my cardiologist this morning and nothing i heard was even remotely good news. according to an echocardiogram i had, one of the valves in my heart is leaking, my heart is enlarged (has to work harder), and of course i still have a murmur but he said thats nothing to worry about. also my ekg shows i have an arrhthmia which i didnt have at last year's cardio checkup.
my MRI showed i have had some TIA's which are "mini strokes".

so now i have to have a bunch more tests done although the doctor isnt really taking any of this very seriously because i'm only 33. but i used to work in the health field and i know what most of this means! he is just acting really blahssay about it saying its "unlikely" that i will drop dead of a heart attack because of my age. but i have heard of people dropping dead in their 20's with these sort of heart problems!

ok so now that i've bored you to death, what can i do now to lose weight without putting too much strain on my heart?

Wonderwoman.....Is there anyway you can get a different doctor?....My friend who died from breast cancer had a doctor that "phooed" the lump in her breast because she was 27...said it was because she was " having her period".....

I am not sure if you are aware of how awesome you look!!!....MAYBE you dont need to lose any weight.......maybe just tone up more.......you dont have to get your heart rate up high to do weight baring exercises....

Your still not going to take trimspa this winter are you???.....How do they fix the valve that is leaking?....

Your pictures look awesome ... if I were you I think I would just try walking a few miles everyday, it doesn't have to be hardcore, heart pumping walking ... just some good exercise and fresh air. I don't want you to push it too hard! Strength training a few days a week ... just tone up and keep in shape. Youre alreayd lookin hot!
DO NOT TAKE TRIMSPA this winter ... I can't imagine that would be any good at all. Not trying to be a boss lol* but I'm just worried about my gal!
You should most definatelt get a second opinion ... not a doctor who is blowing this off as nothing. Take care of yourself babe.

maybe try something low impact like water aerobics. i'd stay away from the marathon training and spinning classes.

thanks guys for the ideas...i'm definately thinking twice now about the trimspa. i want to bring it in to my doc so he can read the label and tell me if its ok to take or not (since i had great results with it before!) but i'm afraid he may not know any better than me since its not really an FDA approved drug. if i ask the pharmacist, i'm sure he'll say check with your cardiologist. i'm thinking i DO need to get a second opinion except i dont know how that works with my insurance company. he mentioned something called a transesophageal echocardiograph - TEE for short, but said he isnt willing to do it unless my neurologist says its necsessary (which makes no sense to me). he inferred it was a waste of money. i'd have to go under anesthesia so i guess there is some risk to it. will have think on this one.

Wonderwoman,

Above all else you must put your health first. It's more important than "looking" thin. I know you have your heart set on reaching a specific weight loss goal. You can still reach it without stressing your heart. I suggest sitting down and making a list of what you feel you need to succeed. Then add to that ways you can approach each of those needs without putting your heart in jeopardy. There are many many exercises you can do which will not overtax your heart and which can still help you lose weight. If you can I'd suggest contacting a personal trainer.

Also, sometimes we get so caught up in trying to lose weight that we forget the simple things we can do to lose weight. One year I didn't exercise at all - all I did was stretch every day and I lost 15 pounds that year. I was shocked - I didn't think stretching would help me lose any weight. Also doing some simple weight training without any weights can tone the body. I do a set of arm exercises that don't require any weights and by doing them I've lost 5 inches off my shoulders in only 2 weeks - and I only do them once a week. Here's a link to the arm and shoulder exercises:

You may also want to consider adding some form of relaxation into your life. Obviously we all have a lot of stress in our lives, and sometimes this jumps up a level, as I'm sure it has been lately for you with all that news from the doctor. Relaxing can have major benefits on the body. There are lots of ideas out there that you can use for relaxing - it could be something as simple as lying on your bed and imagining your entire body relaxing starting from your head down to your toes. There's also a method called biofeedback that I've tried that really relaxes me - It dropped my blood pressure down 30 points when I was really stressed out. And if you're doctor gives you the okay simply walking is a low-impact aerobic exercise that is great for your body, walk at the pace that is comfortable for you. Every little thing we do counts.

I'm sending you good energy! I know you can do it! And I want you to do it safely and let us all know how you're doing!

Sincerely,
Fitgirlsoon

Do exercise please

Hiya,

years ago I had lots of patients with different heartproblems.
Also differnt doctors in their advices.
I give you two very good examples of two differnt people, differnt ages and backgrounds, but with your problem.
The older lady never done any exercise through all her life, while the younger one was very active.
Both stopped doing anything ( not that the older one hasn't done much anyway).
The older one ended up that her condition went from bad to bad and couldn't even walk the stairs any longer after about 15 years of having waisted her life on the sofa after being diagnosed.
The younger one stopped doing her cycling and it took about 3 month to put on 22lbs without any trouble. The conditons of both females went so bad that it was beyond recovery :-(.
All the others I've met done some exercise,- not exessive tho, but easy things as swimming, crosstrainers, walking stair machines and climbers. Again, not exessive. Your body will tell you where the line is when doing exercises.
And when you follow them, you WILL be able to improve your condition, and you will be able to do some exercise and also doing your daily stuff.
So please, DON'T stop and do nothing. If you for an example would go on a cross trainer in a gym or at home you would start of with easy and the lowest setting. By doing this, you can easily feel when your heart starts to go a tiny bit faster. The slow down and ease out until the next time..

I'm a bit confused .. according to your sig you're 5'5" and weigh 115 lbs. That puts you at the low end of your BMI range ... certainly NOT needing to lose more weight.

If you have heart issues, then being underweight can be as bad as being overweight.

Ask your doctor what kinds of exercises you can do - walking, some mild weight lifting to help build muscles (not huge exertions, but something to keep you in shape), maybe yoga?

There ae things you can do that aren't crazy exertions and your doctors should be able to help guide you.

Before few months i have also this type of problems but i meet my gym coach and they advice me to go for weight loss seminar. So, now today i loss 40% of weight.

Thanks
Stringer
