How accurate are those exercise bikes??

I just had my 1st decent workout on my bike. I'm planning on doing 4 sets of 10 minutes every day.

So, after going 15mph for 10 minutes...I completed 2.5 miles, it said I only burned 25 calories!??!!?? I know that can't be right. I wonder how accurate anything is other than the time, lol

The bike(singular, NOT plural) in my gym typically says ~800 calories/hr/20 miles. I don't pay much attention to the calories.
25 cals for 2.5 miles seems like the display should have been 250 maybe? It depends a lot on the difficulty settings too I suppose.

Yeah, don't worry about that. Take a look at online calculators for more accurate idea of what you burned.

I have a stationary bike and it did me pretty good.I just made sure I either did 4 or 5 miles or 45 mins to and hour

The calorie meters are pretty crappy on those bikes, I just ended up buying a fairly inexpensive heart rate monitor ($70) that seems to do the job though :)

HAHAHA, our exercise bike is the same way. I can pedal at 12MPH for 15 minutes and it says I burned like 70 calories. I just sit there like, "REALLY? After ALL THAT? 70 calories? REALLY? I burn more than that every time I fart."

I just use an estimation chart of calories burned by riding a stationary bike and use those calculations instead of the horrible estimation made by our exercise bike.
