Hoping this will help me

Hello everyone! I am new to the forum page, i've never done this before and im hoping it will help with my goals. I am 21 years old, a college graduate and have a loving and supporting family and boyfriend. The only problem in my life at the moment is that I have gained so much weight that I often find myself staying at home and dreding being around people. About 2 years ago I was a healthy size 4 and 130lbs. Now 2 years later I am a size 12 and 177lbs. The drastic change has hurt my self-esteem and its beginning to hurt my relationship of 2 years. I have become desperate, and in a way depressed. I need motivation. I have tried numerous diets but after about 2 weeks I give up. I'm trying a forum as a desperate approach to let out my feelings and try to achieve my goal (130lbs or size 4) I hope this helps. Thanks everyone! :)

Why do you give up on "diets" - are they too restrictive? too few calories? cutting out a primary food group?

As you read the stickied threads around the forum, and please do... you'll find that the secret of weight loss is using more calories than you take in...

what is your plan for exercise and meals?

I guess its because i get bored with them often. I go try to go to the gym about 2 to 3 times a week. I have a problem with wanting to see fast results (even if its just a pound) so when I dont see any changes I give up. I started one today and I want to stick with it for a month. We'll see what happens. Thank you for answering! :)

I think you're giving yourself an out before you even get started. Your words, "I want to stick with it for a month, we'll see what happens", don't sound to me like you have committed yourself at all.

I know losing weight is hard and being hungry stinks, but weight loss really does start in your head and you'll have to make your mind up that you ARE going to stick with this plan for at least one month. Tell yourself you can give up after 30 days if you choose to...but you will commit to those 30 days.

My 2 cents for whatever they're worth. :)

BTW....130 pounds and a size 4....are you rather tall? I'm 6' tall and 150 pounds puts me into a size 6 (which is really too skinny for my build). Are you being realistic about your goal weight and size?

I am about 5'1. I was a size 4 two years ago and I was happy. I was actually 117lbs when I graduated high school 4 years ago and I think I was way too small then. Thank you for your response. I will commit myself to this program for 30 days. Hopefully with some good results, and the comments are encouraging! :)

You're just a wee one then. lol

Lots of great folks here....just keep trying and you will see results and people here will encourage you. I know I didn't see any results at all for almost a month. (working out and watching what I ate) That's when I found this place and I decided that I knew I was doing the right things to lose weight and it would happen if I kept doing them.... I've lost 14 pounds now...16 more to go. :)

Welcome to the forum.

Your starting weight was pretty close to mine. I weighed 180 lbs, when I finally decided to do something about the extra pounds I was packin.

You are more than capable of dropping the weight.

Good Luck to you on this new found journey.

Love Yourself First and Foremost...

Hi everywhere girl,

I'm sorry to hear you are so down on yourself. I know it's not easy to get motivated when you're so depressed about being overweight. Being overweight tends to bring down self-confidence, but there is a way to overcome it. You have to make a conscience to decision to stick with whatever it is that you plan on doing. I'm no newbie to weight loss. I've had 5 children in the span of 8 years and I've had my ups and downs. It's not an easy road, but you can do it if you really want to and put your mind to it and decide that enough is enough and don't stop until you reach your goal. I wish you all the success in the world!!

About 2 years ago I was a healthy size 4 and 130lbs. Now 2 years later I am a size 12 and 177lbs.

I am about 5'1.

Just goes to show you that you can't tell size by weight and height! I'm 5'4, and am currently in a pretty-tight size 12 at 155 pounds. Goal for me is 127, and I anticipate being a size 8 or 10 at that point. Even when I was 115 (in high school), I was a size 6.

As an FYI, I lost no weight (none, not a single pound) per the scale the first 4 weeks I started eating better. But then the weight started to come off, and I'm down 42 pounds in 6 months. I've lost some of that weight twice now, and am currently in the "I've lost this weight at least 6 times" zone, so I try really hard to make my "diet" a plan I can stick with for the rest of my life - because otherwise, I'm going to gain right back.

I'm personally not a fan of exercise for weight loss. For fitness and general health and wellbeing, yes, but not for burning calories. Unless you have the whole day to devote to exercise and monitor your calories to be sure you aren't consuming more, it's hard to lose an appreciable amount of weight that way. Plus exercise makes me hungry, so I wanted to get my eating under control before I added that to the mix.

Thank you for all the encouragement

I wanted to thank everyone for all the encouragement. Last week was my fist week and I did really well. I went to the gym 3 times for about an hour each time and i stuck with my diet all week. To reward myself, i went to a nice dinner on Saturday night but still watched my intake. :) I weighed myself yesterday and I lost 2 pounds. I know its not that big of a deal but in my head its a start! Im hoping i can stick with it this week since my parents will be in town. Thanks again everyone and keep up the great work! :)
