Hey...I'm new... which I figure is obvious but a less awkward way to start?

I've been looking at the website for awhile now and was very inspired by all the before/afters and inbetweens.
I have been on diets since I was 8. Since I can remember, my Mom has forced me on them and as a result, I went through some dark times, but I'm finally in it because I want the change.
I'm 18 and tired of being called fat by the idiots I go to school with :)
They are right, but it doesn't make it easier to hear.

I'm 5 foot 5...and a half :) I started at 183 about 2 weeks ago and am currently at 167. My goal weight is 150 :)
I guess I'm basically here for the support? And as a way to document my journey... I just want to live a happier and healthier life and not always be so conscious of being... fat/overweight/unattractive.

Welcome! I'm new too! I'm going to try and lose 100 pounds! I wish you luck. I'm going to be documenting my journey on a blog. I'm hoping it's a place were people can share their own stories by reading mine. (REMOVED)

Great! I hope the "extreme phase" is still healthy. Remember it didn't come on over night and it won't drop over night. Think marathon rather than sprint. Just don't get discouraged when the weight loss slows.

It is great you are starting so young. When you friends start putting on weight you will be looking fabulous! When I went back for my 25th reunion nobody could believe it. When they're all fat (and bald) and you are fit and sexy it will be soooo worth it!

Keep it up!

great work, how did you lose so much weight in two weeks, share please:)

Well I'm on the South Beach Diet (phase one, which I consider extreme, as a lover of carbs and sugar) and I'm taking a yoga class and hiking/taking walks as often as possible :) I'm not one to count calories, I hate math, maybe someday I will count them, but South Beach works so far, and its long term, so I'm hoping that when I reach my goal, I will be able to maintain my weight.

I've had a few slip ups in the last two days but I think I handled it well, and went right back into my diet.

But you're right PaulK, I'm looking forward to the 'after' part of all of this, it's what keeps me motivated!

Firstly, I'm incredibly sorry that you've been forced onto diets since the age of 8, via the influence of your mother. I'm sure she had good intentions, but that sounds a bit extreme.

Secondly, I was definitely the 18-year-old being called fat in high school, just a few years ago. I don't know your personal experiences, but I know that in a few of mine, I've been treated more like a dog than a human. People can be so vile.

You sound like you're doing great!
Your goal is reasonable and reachable, and with a little willpower, you will undoubtedly get there.

Congratulations on your committment to change and on stumbling upon this site -- I've only been here a week and a half, and it's already abundantly clear how many wonderful, supportive and inspiring people this place is filled with.

Yeah, and in the past week or so, as stupid teens can be, I've suddently become uninvisible. And yeah, I think she started me so young because she didn't want me to grow up this way, but, it didn't work haha

It's very hard for me not to slip up, but I've really been putting in an effort!

Thank you for the support, and youre right, I'm so glad I found this site! It's been a huge support and motivator for me so far :)
