Honestly...

Hi new moms, future moms, seasoned moms and everyone in between! I need your HONEST feedback on something I have been considering for a while.

I am a mother of 1 (eighteen months), a co-owner of a business with my husband, and a pre-med student about to enter into medical school (2009) to become an Obstetrician. I have always been interested in health and fitness and helping people find their motivation for losing weight and choosing healthier lifestyles.

I am considering applying for certification as a Pre/Post natal personal trainer to help put myself through medical school (about $150,000:ack2:), and to also get a feel for what its like to deal with pre/post natal issues such as fitness and nutrition.

SO MY QUESTION IS:

As a mom, or an expecting mom, if you could afford to have a personal trainer help you stay healthy and fit during and after your pregnancy...would you consider hiring one?

Any feedback, opinions, or personal experience is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Oh! I think that is SUCH an awesome idea. And if I had any money, I would definitely hire you!! I think your idea could be really awesome, particularly if you're in a well-to-do area. However, I would imagine that one problem is that lots of people worry about the extra cost of a baby and might not want to spend on a luxury like what you're offering. But if you could prove you're really worth it, and not that expensive... I think you're on to a great idea!

Definitely. I hired a post natal trainer and it was worth every cent! I paid her $35/hour which is super cheap. I got such a good deal because I go to a gym on a military base and use spouses get some nice perks. I looked around and most charge $60-100 per hour.

A personal trainer would be nice no matter what the situation. However, I don't feel with all the motivation and information you can get on the internet that a personal trainer is really needed.

This program helped me lose almost thirty pcloaked: after having my son.

Thanks for the program suggestion. I think you're right, you definitely can find a wealth of information on the web, but I think for some people who are just really at a loss where to start, a trainer could be helpful, and also trainers can tailor workouts to your body and your goals, which can be helpful.

I was seeing a personal trainer after I had my oldest, then I got pregnant again and had to stop because I was on bed rest from 13 week until 26weeks. I'm seeing her again now and if you have the money I think it's great. My PT is awesome, she pushes me when I would normaly give up and she's so easy to talk to she makes the work outs fun

Why not combine this with something else... say offer to be there during delivery if your clients want... include herbal remedies (if you know about this)... include massages... etc. I don't know what your area of expertise is, but I think you need something to make yourself stand out....

I'm a mother of a 10 month old and will start law school soon... sounds like you and I are in the same boat =) Good luck to you

I would have hired one in a heartbeat! I think that is an awesome idea. I have four kids so I could have used you a while back! LOL:smilielol5:

what a fantastic idea, I was thinking of doing the same thing too before I started uni. I'm in my fifth year of medicine with a baby (15months). The reason I didn't do it is because uni is cheap here and I don't have to pay until later, plus the government pays me an allowance because I'm a mum.

Good luck!

It sounds like a great idea, but unless you come pre-packaged with a nanny assistant, it might be a tough sell. I know that I can't stomach being away from my son even for an hour - and oh my goodness, when he was a newborn I wouldn't let him out of my sight for a second!
