Homemade Exercise Equipment

Spam?

No, this isn't spam. I'm not selling anything. I'm letting fellow fitness buffs know that there is a lot that can be built rather than spending a lot of money.

best home thing I ever looked at was a power rack made from scalfolding
need to ask Biker for the link and put it up here

hmm, maybe I need to do a book on homemade equipment? I have a bunch myself.

years ago i made a squat rack by cementing some 2x6's in 5 gallon buckets. then would squat b/w saw horses. used that for years.

i had also made a chinning bar out in the yard.

whatever it takes ;)

acctually thats quite a cool site.

what material are you using for the grip stuff, the piping looks very thin, how much weight can it take?

sorry this is my 3rd post in a row, just had to say that I love the door way chin up bars!!!!

Thats a great idea, I love the fact that they dont damage the doors. good work dude

i like the pulley on a wall so you can work out your muscles tha involves arm wrestling.

If you're referring to the free standing gripper, read the Important Notice at the bottom of that section. I had made the rack out of 3/4" piping, and, yes, I think they are a bit too spindly. I state at the top that what is pictured is a prototype and to read the Important Notice. I plan to rebuild it using 1" piping plus adding a couple of other added attractions.

If you're referring to the free standing gripper, I made it out of 3/4" piping, and, yes, it is a bit too spindly. I have loaded it with 100 lbs. and it is fine, but I don't know how much stress it can ultimately withstand. If you read the Important Notice at the bottom of that section, you'll see my recommended changes and that I am going to make another one using 1" piping. I'm also going to incorporate a couple of other added attractions.

oops. I thought my first response didn't take.

Oh, well. ok. So, moving along...............

abear.................

Your American Power Stands or whatever they're called would be a great addition to my site and could be easily drawn up as a computer graphic. So, I'd like to do that with credit to you, of course. ok? How did you get the 2x6's to stand up straight while the cement was drying? How tall did you make them?

Saw horses - ingenious! I'll have to stick a blurb in there about that, too.

ha, thats cool

we did them early one morning and just kept an eye on them. now this was roughly 11 years ago but i dont recall the 2x6's moving around much at all. we cut them to 6' when we cemented them in and we cemented 1/2 of the bucket. that was a saturday morning, then sunday evening we cut them to size.

we cut a deep V groove (although the first one came out more like a U ;)) into the top of the 2x6 to where you had to kinda squat to get under the bar and squat it up. then of course we tested it before using it. it held the bar so we kept adding 10lbs at a time. the most i squatted out of it was 220lbs.

and of course we kept the handles on the buckets for ease in moving. if i remember correctly, we did have to cut down the saw horses to where we could squat deep enough also. :)

Power Stands

Alrighty, then, abear.......

I've added your Power Stands to the

I took the liberty of specifying pressure treated 4x6's. I also provided a link to this forum from your name.

If there is anything you want to change, lemme know.

Thanks for your contribution!
