home gym/bowflex vs gym membership

i read in another forum how there's an ew bowflex comin out and wanted to see if anyone kenw about htis. its supposed to look completely different and be 10 times better than the old versions. i hope they got rid of those enormous rods.

also, i was checkin out their site and saw the number of options they ahve. im thinking this might be the best investment for me, im just looking for 30 minutes a day, and i dont want to waste money on a treadmill because i can always run outside.

any thoughts are greatly appreciated

Looks like you have your mind made up lol Those things must be in the thousands i'm sure(bowflex). You can get a years membership for $300/400 CAD here and you can easily build a nice home gym with free weights/bench/bars etc under $1000. And both are more effective than a bowflex.

Free weights or a gym membership. Personally i like working out at home its more convient. I have a small home gym, free weights, few bars, dumbells, light squat rack, cruch board etc

get a membership to the gym, if you are home and you have your bowflex in one corner, and your couch/tv in the other, its too tempting to be like "oh ill go do it here in 5 minutes after this show is over" then bam fall asleep and not workout. i like the gym. + seeing all the huge dudes motivates the hell outa me to workout better. AND racquetball and basketball are hella fun. AND i can do cardio there.

Just to get picky...Geez i have to drive, walk, or get a ride to the gym. I'm too tried. Instead of.,, Go downstairs for a workout :D

It's all personal preference of course. :)

forget both

Try a russian kettlebell.

The bell will cost about $100 and a meeting with a certified kettlebell trainer will cost about 50$ and you will be set to have the best workouts of your life.

The benefits...cheaper than both, more effective, NOTHING gets you in shape like a kettlebell, and you won't need to sacrfifice a room in your house. The kettlebell alone is a home gym.

You should look into it!

join golds gym. i love it there. its got an atmosphere that really gets you motivated to lift the heavy loads and pump harder

The bowflex is so expensive. You could save yourself the money of all that and get yourself You'll also need a tractor tire, sledgehammer, and a keg you can fill with water. You'll also want some farmers walk implements and a barbell with some free weights (all of this you can much cheaper than a bowflex). ;)

where do you get a kettlebell? I saw an article on it that praised it like you did, but I haven't seen it for sale in a fitness store. Also are there a lot of kettlebell trainers or are they also general fitness trainers?

I agree with a lot of the guys on this topic. get yourself a membership to a gym. I have the bowflex ultimate it works great for me but I would much rather have a membership to a gym. the reason that I even got the bowflex was because I wasn't confident enough to go to a gym and work out with all of the big dudes around. The bowflex it very expensive though my father and I paid on the unit and it took us a while to pay it off. It is a good unit though I laughed at some of the people that would come over thinking that it wouldn't give them a challenge. I had a friend come over- he tried to do a chest press and started shaking because he didn't stabalize himself. He said "it's cool, but why is it shaking?" I said to him "the machine is not shaking it's you" :D but in the end you have to do what you feel the ultimate was around 2000 and a membership to a gym is like 35 a month it all depends on what you are looking to spend and how your life style is

You need to be Russian Kettlebell Certified in order to be an official trainer and the training for that is WAY harder than a certified Western Trainer (from what I understand)

If you do learn how to use a kettlebell, I'm willing to bet a large sum of money ($3.78) that you will never go back to barbells as your main source of exercise.

you just have to leave your ego at the door. i work out at a gym, where there is a guy who's nickname is "traps". one of the biggest and strongest guys ive ever seen. and the guy walks in wearing a cut off cheerios shirt. hes huge, doing lats with a 120 lbs dumbbell with a 35 lb plate sittin on top of it.

but the way i see it. if someone comes in the weight room doing small amounts of weight (like me), then i would give them props for wanting to get in shape/stronger.

so the gym is better!
