Hmm, intresting technique ?

Just scanning along to find this, very different method of lifting
whats your opinion of it ? Does this effectively work ?

Looks a bit dangerous if you ask me! lol.

In two ways:

1) You could easily injure yourself
2) You could harm people working out around you if you let go at the wrong time

Not sure of how effective it would be though but I think traditional methods are best to stick to for 99% of people! lol.

The jumping looks hella fun though!! I couldn't go into the gym and start bouncing around like that though haha.

lol, I wasnt thinking of doing that, just thought it was... wierd really, sounds more like chinese stress release yoga "puuuussssshhh and feeeeeel thee powweerrrr, hhaaaa"

Yer I thought that, if he dropped that after launching x amount of kg 4 inches of his hands and landed on his head, I wouldnt like to see the outcome basically.

there are other variations of these that would be safer and as far as being effective they are for increasing your starting strength for sports

Holy crap dude, when I first watched him do plyometric bench, I thought it was a normal bench. Then I figured out it was a guided smith bench. No way would I be able to catch it if it were just free weight.

There is a lot of great information and exercises in that video. The methods are not new and are used with great success all over the strength training world. I use a lot of the exercises in my training. (sometimes the exact exercises, sometimes a variation)

This is wrong on both counts. There is nothing dangerous to anyone in that video. As long as everything is being done with proper form and spotters.

There really is a lot of cool stuff going on in that video.

It certainly is very very cool to watch, but I just mean if somebody see's the video and then thinks "oh i'll give that a go" they could easily injure themselves. Plus on a lot of them it looks like he doesn't have a spotter, just the camera guy, but nobody close enough to stop the weight slipping out of his hand and coming crashing down onto his chest. But I watched the video last night so I could be wrong.

Also I am not disputing whether it works or not and he does say it is for sports training and makes that very clear which is good. I agree with you if you know what you are doing it can be safe but for somebody starting out they could easily get hurt, for example dropping that plate onto your foot if you didn't quite get a good grip on the way down :eek2:

In all fairness the gym is massive and he picked a nice clear spot free of people, he probably has been doing it for ages, I lol'd when he couldnt speak because he was out of breath after like... 5 push ups

That statement is true for all exercise.

On a completely separate note. He did a lot more then a bench press with the bar leaving his hands and an explosive front raise. (which seems to be what a lot of responders saw)

We can't tell people not to try it or to do something else. We can just say that, if they decide to try it, they should focus on form and safety. (like all exercise) Also, like all training everything is better if you have a coach. It will provide great results.

A spotter is worthless on plyometrics such as the ballistic bench. He's probabally using 25% of his normal max. If a spotter attempted to catch the bar, it ruins the the benefit of the plyometric movement (stretch reflex).

As said-the same can be said for any movment.

Haha nice call out. What are these methods?

med balls(d-balls up to 200lbs) would be safer and as far as his explosive squats olympic lifts would be more effective i saw his hang cleans and i do those also and his plyo bench press would be safer doing ply push-ups with a 40-80lb vest on or again heavy d-ball passes i like and do his split jumps and box jumps but again better done with a vest on rather than any barbells or even db's

as far as being called out you must be joking because anybody involved with serious weight training knows these techniques (as i am sure you probably do) i was just giving an opinion which is what was asked in the thread
