Hilary Duff blames media for weight loss

Hilary Duff has confessed that she decided to lose weight after her figure was criticised in a US magazine.

The singer and actress provoked alarm last year when she slimmed down to a US size zero (UK size four).

She admitted: "I did get skinny. When I read (headlines like) 'Duff Puff - she's gained 15 pounds', how would any normal person react?"
 
Thats a pretty piss poor excuse.
Mind you i would hate to be in the media. But as it is - a fat person gets the same kind of critical stare from everyone anyway - its just not public like in the mags :)
 
Being ridiculed like that is bad enough, but when you know its being read by all those people? No wonder she reacted the way she did... At least she had the bravery to say what made her do it.
 
She originally lived in my area and I met her at a few highschool parties, she's not the brightest bulb in the bunch so it's probably an excuse made up by her publicist. I'm not going to comment on what the real reason for weight loss would be.

I too have heard some things about her through friends who knew her from High School that dont exactly reflect Disney's image.
 
ahhh i think thats unfair. ultimately.. if u had some magazien saying ha ha youre fat.. id lose weight too anyway i could- its open bullying
 
I wonder why she decided to get her teeth done too. Her teeth were lovely before she got them freakified!
 
imagine the way we feel, people staring at us when we eat and when we pick up clothes. Multiply that by the amount of people who know Hillary Duff and you will remotely know the way she feels. Don't be surprised if her own parents told her to lose it for a better image. This is how the world works if you're fat its your own fault and you have to fix it yourself so others accept you.
 
Hilary Duff got into the media's focus at a young and impressionable age. The great majority of teenagers are pretty self-conscious and think that people are paying undue attention to them, that they are center stage for good or ill - be even worse when it's actually true. Even now she's only, what? Nineteen? I prefer to postpone judgement.

Also, while it is true that fat people do get stared at, your average person won't get blasted for putting on fifteen pounds when they're in the healthy or below healthy weight range. I mean, I doubt Hillary Duff could ever have been considered fat - or even chubby. Its different when minor weight fluctuations can bring public condemnation. That'd surely put me on the razor's edge!
