HIIT workouts

How should i structure my HIIT workouts to get the most efficiency out of them. length, how many intervals, length of intervals, etc... and how often should i do a HIIT workout?

your referring to cardio right, because most of the time, people refer to HIIT as high intensive interval training, which is cardio, but different from normal cardio with the fact that it is highly effective at burning fat with minimal muscle loss, if compared to doing normal cardio.

30 minutes - sprint for a few minutes, then jog/walk , repeat.
3 times a week

i have my client's doing 10mins as I'd rather they go 100% for 10mins than 60 - 70% or so for 30mins...10mins doing 90secs as slow as you can than 30secs going as hard as you can increasing restsance when needed than adjusting time by decreasing rest time

That makes sense swans...10 mins doing 100%. Awesome info! I'll be doing HIIT beginning on Monday and I am here gathering all info possible. I want to do this right without overtraining. When you decrease rest time ...do you increase the sprint interval???? Can you please clear that up a little for me? thanks. (don't mind me!!!I want to make sure I got it...:D )

It doesnt matter the intervals or time that you do. Mine varies week by week. What you want to aim for is keeping your heart rate about 60%-80% of your maximum heart rate.

This is an anaerobic style of running so your metabolism is increased massively, and you can possibly burn up to 9 times more fat then if you ran endurance-style.

Also change your intervals every week. Keep your body guessing so it can burn more and not get used to it. Say one week you jog for 90 seconds and sprint for 30 second, while the next week you jog for 60 sec, sprint for 20 sec, and speed walk for 10 seconds.

Hope that was useful.

Yes, very useful..thanks for sharing CS!

I'm new to HIIT, so everything and anything is good.
You people Rock! I'm learning lots of new things here! :)

That's not HIIT, that's regular cardio.

You want to shoot for 95+% of your max heart rate, then allow the rate to drop to 70%.
