HIIT on Exercise Bikes Viable?

Sorry if this has been posted previously. I was just wondering if HIIT would work on a resistance bike as well? For instance,

-I'd set the res low for a warmup for a few mins. Resistance 4
-1 minute at 7 Resistance, 105+ RPM's
- Back to 4 at a slower speed for a minute
Alternate this 7 ----> 4 for 20 mins.

Any input is appreciated!
Thanks!

I bike several times a week. I warmup, bike at a certain level of intensity (on my bike it's just a dial) or a certain amount of time, usually 30-40 minutes, then cool down.

Unless you were pushing your intensity level beyond what you could handle for longer, what would be the benefit?

what you describe is the basis for spin classes. they modulate the tension, increase / decrease pedal speed, for a true interval training workout. I miss it (no public gym access at this time).
It can really work (HIIT)almost anywhere you can exert body energy - running up stairs, running flat, biking, swimming, volleyball, even bowling. If anyone doubts that last 'sport' - try rolling 10 games in an hour or less. It'll break a good sweat.

yes, bowling will make you sweat, but it won't get your heartrate up to 180 and more...

hell i can sweat by doing nothing (sauna..) ... that doesn't mean you're getting a good body workout or that i'm burning fat.

Yeah that would be considered low intensity but it still is effective. Just not as much as high intensity.
