High Time to Deal with This

Last week we were all...snowed in, and I didn't do very well for myself. Did a little better this weekend. Had it under control yesterday (i.e. Monday), went to sleep around 11pm, and just woke up at good ol' 3:46AM to unpleasant dreams and found myself eating chips. It's like they jumped into my mouth, I swear. :willy_nilly:

No, total lack of self-control. I drive along fine for miles and then crash. It never fails. On second thought, that way of thinking never got anyone anywhere.

Whatever. Just posting here to avoid eating more before I retire back to bed; I'm sure venting will serve an equal purpose. The relief of outlet and the relief of intake are very similar to me.

Regardless, I'm up in 3 hours to hit the gym. Let's see how that goes over, hm?

That happens to me sometimes. Without a conscious thought I'll grab something and start eating and then once I've started I'll snap out of it and realize what I'm doing. However, one chip binge will not ruin all of the good work you did before that.

Have fun at the gym!

Get rid of the chips, throw them out... and don't buy more. if its not there you can't eat it.

He's so right, I have the same problem, so I just rid my place of anything like that that I don't need and will regret eating later. You may crave it, but if it's not there, you can't have it. It's much easier to deny yourself getting in the car and going to the store to get something bad, than it is to deny yourself when it's just sitting on the shelf staring at you.

I agree as well! Actually, I don't even buy much food ahead of time at all. I end up going to the grocery store about 3 to 4 times a week to buy only the things I am going to need for the meals I am preparing. And since I am pretty poor I refuse to buy things like cheese and snack food. I will buy a good load of veggies, a couple pieces of fish and some beans and bread. Crunchy toast makes it seem more like snack food and the rest I end up eating because it's all I have in my house. Another bonus is because I buy so little food at a time, nothing gets wasted and I very rarely end up throwing anything away.

I agree with everyone here. Definitely only buy things that you wont feel guilty about eating. Wake up hunger? Eat some veggies or a fruit. If it's not in the house, you wont eat it! I had the same problem when I first tried to diet. I found myself eating icing out of the container if there was nothing else to eat! Not good!

Anyway, good luck! You can do it! It's going to take a little extra self-control but it's not impossible!

Thanks, guys, for your time.

I know, and I usually try to keep unhealthy food away. I didn't want to just throw away all the things I'd bought last week in my little slump, though. Ick. Don't have the money to waste.

Instead, I gave the bag of chips to my friend who always wants to eat when she comes by. She loves food about as much as I do, and happens to be all of half my size. Killing two birds, I guess.

Anyway, I just home from work. I've eaten an egg sandwich on wheat and an apple. I always do well until about 8pm, then I turn into a werewolf or something and eat like a damn starving person.

I'm pretty fortunate that I'm not huge (pun) on sweets, because my roommates are constantly making cakes and cookies for the apartment. Like now. Like right now. Like... right as I just finished talking to my mother about that which is probably my biggest binge trigger.

If the streets weren't so covered in snow, I'd go for a walk. Outlet vs. intake.

Maybe I'll do some homework instead.

I have a hard time with night time eating as well. It's one of the hardest habits to break and I just don't know how to do it!

Maybe we should invent some kind of tape for our mouths that works for about 8 hours and disintegrates by morning. :D

Lol wouldn't that be nice?!

I just hate it when you get those cravings. There are 2 things I do to fight them:
1) I'll drink water. No that doesn't mean when your body is telling it's hungry and instead of having a real meal, you just fill up with water. This means after a good meal and you still are craving sweets, just drink water! How much water do you drink daily? I've noticed on days where I just drink plenty of water through-out the day, I don't even get cravings at all.
2) I've learned the hard way that you can't just cut yourself off from everything you enjoy completely. NOPE. Can't be done (for me anyways)! So everything in moderation. Have a little! Someone told me about this in my dairy and they got it from another member on here but they termed it: controlled treats. I LIKE IT. So have a little and then...drink water! lol :)

You mentioned that the streets are covered in snow so you can't go for a walk but do some exercises in your room. I've looked up exercises on SparkPeople and YouTube: squats, lunges, push-ups, sit-ups, etc. 2 days out of the week I try to do an hour of just circuit training and I do all of it inside my house and I seriously work up a sweat. It just gives you something to do, you know?

Keep at it and you will succeed :)

Water... very helpful.
A fact I picked up somewhere I would like to add to this is the more sugar you eat the more you crave it so if you can cut back and have the "controlled" treats you are talking about it really does make a difference after a while when you get used to it.
