High Blood Pressure and Weight Training

Blood pressure significantly increases when someone is doing overhead work e.g. shoulder presses etc. Even exercises like flat bench prench as the heart has to work harder against gravity for the blood to be transported to working muscles.

Whats peoples thoughts on this?

If a guy/lady exercises with already high blood pressure surely this is going to cause problems?

What about if it is under control with meds and they are getting a normal BP reading?

Jst a few things to think about?

Is it really worth someone pressing overhead when an alternative could be given (unless body builiding probably)?

Let me know what people know/think?

P.S. Any good quotes out there on this subject

I had the same concerns, so I asked my doctor the same questions before starting weight training back in March/April. Her response was that with the meds that I'm on I exhibit none of the signs of HBP, and therefore can follow a reasonable lifting regimen...while monitoring my BP for any negative impact.

It's now been 4 months since I started my cardio, lifting, and nutrition regimen, and my BP is averaging lower than it was prior. I'm still taking my meds religiously, but I'm now working with my doctor to lower or, dare I hope, eliminate them.
