:newbie: Hi! Just joined up looking for a forum to help me finally shift the weight. Just invested in a new scales only to find i am at heavier then i have ever been. Have managed my first 3lb loss this week but from experience know i will pack it in if i don't have the support this site looks great! Want to shift about 60lbs :nopity: Anne x

Welcome aboard newme and congrats on the first three pounds. Already making good progress. Have you thought of breaking down goals into a series of goals or given yourself a timeline yet?

Hi Feelinggooder! Thanks so much the first few lbs going is always nice! I have joined the monthly challenge and set a mini goal of 10lb for this month would be really happy if i could manage that! I don't really have any life events coming up to work towards other then being a whole lot lighter by the time i turn 47 in July even to have lost a few stone would be fab!

No worries about the weight stalling from time to time. I've found that when I focus more on things I can control like committing to hitting an activity goal (walk for 200 minutes a week, do X number of situps/pushups etc) and focus on making sure I prepare meals in advance to help keep me on track with the eating side of things, the weight loss comes more naturally.

When you step on the scale a whole host of factors come into play that don't really tell a complete story like how hydrated you are, how much fluids are you retaining because you ate something salty the night before etc etc...

Started on a mild green tea tastes OK just had two cups today to get used to the flavor Hope it will aid in the weigh loss!

Only if you are presently 133.

52 weeks in a year, 1 lb per week, 56 lbs to go (.... okay, if you were 132 and had your birthday coming in the next four weeks, that'd do it, too).

Kidding and ridiculo-rithmetic aside, 1 lb per week is a very good rate of weight loss. It's very safe, helps avoid "crash-diet/starving/metabolism-slowing syndrome" and weight is much more likely to stay off in the long term when it was lost at a rate of 1 to 1.5 lb/week.

The only drawback to a 1 lb/week weight-loss rate is that it can seem like you're being outrun by turtles, snails, and even glaciers. But then, glaciers do almost always eventually get to where they are going.

(ETA: Or did you mean you'd weigh 134 pounds when you reached your goal, not that you'd be 134 years old? ...Uh, oops! Just ignore everything I said.... )

Hi Newme! :)

You're doing great. Any loss should definitely be celebrated! Don't stress about meeting goals within a certain time frame. Your body can sometimes be a giant pain in the rump when it comes to losing weight. You can discover some weeks where you do everything to perfection, yet still don't lose, and sometimes gain, that week.

It's a tricky course to navigate for sure sometimes, but just hang in there, remain focused, and you'll succeed eventually :)

Have you thought of starting a journal in the Diary section? It can be a great, convenient way to track your progress and vent your frustrations as well as meet some of the great people on this forum :)

Good luck to ya!

Lol thanks so much Evelyn you were right it was age i was talking about! I guess i will just have to be patient about the weight loss it took me nearly 47 years to get in this shape think that's what made me think it would take the same plus vat to shift it lol!!

Thank you so so much for you're kind support and encouragement means a whole lot! I am 5'1 and weigh 13st 8.5lb so got a way to go!

Hi Frogged! Thank you so much for the support and encouragement like Evelyn's message it has really cheered me up and spurred me onward! I do tend to hurry things up and get frustrated when its not happening faster gotta learn to chill out more! I am trying to shift the weight for health reasons will be 47 in July and i know of the increasing issues of obesity ( loathe that word!) on you're body so time to sort it out! The journal does sound like a good idea! I do keep my own diary daily of the amount of exercise taken during the day and water intake which i know is important struggling with that part! More of a tea drinker now etching into the green tea it;s not so bad! Grinch tea!

Thanks so much to you both again made my day! XX (((( Evelyn and Frogged)))

If we could only lose weight at the same rate that we originally gained it (or slower, what with taxes and all!), we'd really be in trouble! :(

One rather silly way to look at it is that it takes most women about 9 months to "gain" 7-8 lbs of baby, but that "weight" is generally "shed" within the hours that it takes to give birth. (If you'll allow me to ignore both the weight gained at pregnancy that is not lost during childbirth, and the vast differences between losing weight and giving birth...)

And then there's Aesop's old fable about the Tortoise and the Hare who had a race to see who could lose the most weight:

The Hare went on the 24-Carrots-Per-Day Crash Diet, and lost tons of weight at right away. :willy_nilly: He looked great for a while, but gained all that weight back as soon as he went off the 24kt Diet and back to his normal eating patterns.

(I hear he's now considering Hare-iatric surgery  ).

The Tortoise followed a sensible, healthy diet & exercise plan, and lost about a pound per week. She got terribly frustrated and impatient with just plodding slowly and steadily along... :toetap05: But she kept with it anyway, and now she's slim and healthy.

(I hear she's getting herself fitted for a sexy new shell. :coolgleama: )

And I said the giving-birth thing was silly... I guess I'm sometimes just a silly person. :p

But I'm a silly person who is going to lose the weight I need to lose and get healthy, and keep that weight off and stay healthy. And you are a person who is going to to do just the same (losing weight & staying healthy, that is - any silliness on your part is entirely optional).

lol i love you're posts Evelyn seems like i have met a kindred spirit as far as the silliness goes! It's in the gene's i blame my dad lol!

You're so right tho doing it slowly and plodding along at the right speed for you is the right way for sure.. One day i am going to have a new shell and won't have to squeeze into the old baggy saggy one! Right now a few steps over the start line turtle power!

Hope your journey is going well. Have you tried setting any goals for the week yet?

I find setting weekly goals gives me something to work towards and helps keep me on track.

Hi Feelinggooder! You're right it does help to set a goal i have been doing that and keeping a record book of my exercise taken for the week then trying to up it a bit each week.. not sure if the pre menopause actually makes it more differcult to loose weight read online somewhere it does so that may explain the bloating and very slow weight loss but i am NOT giving in!:chillpill:

Great job on the exercise tracking and increasing goals. Stick with it and the results will definitely keep coming but remember not to pay too much attention to what the scale says on any particular day.

Have heard taking measurements on a regular basis is also a good idea for progress tracking.

Great job! Just don't celebrate by ordering a chocolate sundae.

Scale can sometimes be misleading, so don't let them drive your motivation. They can sometimes give false hope and sometimes not show your real loss.

Just be ready to stay in for the long haul!
