View attachment 21015My name is Cody, I'm a computer technician.

I'm new to this sort of this, so if its coming off as awkward, its probably right.

I'm 6'5, male, 280 lbs and according to the BMI I'm extremely overweight. I'm wanting to change that, It pains me to see other fit people because I cant believe I've let myself go so bad, I've always been inactive. I never work out, or go to the gym. I'm a gamer. Its what I do.

I get jealous of people running because I want to be out there doing that too, but i don't want to embarrass myself by doing poorly.
Its a stupid excuse, i know, but I'm willing to change. I joined this forum because I think this is the motivational push that I need to get this started, to stay on it, and to become a better... me.

You've done the right thing coming here, I've found a lot of support since I joined this forum and it helped me a lot. Don't hesitate to start a diary in the appropriate section.

Welcome !

I joined this forum at 231 Lbs and 37 days later I weigh 207 Lbs.

My advise would be to be open and share the stuff you're experiencing and feeling - stuff you might not be readily be able to talk to other people about and you'll find that just getting that stuff out is the motivation you need. Start with a set of goals with one main goal which is the weight you want to get down to and by when.

I worked out at home almost exclusively for the first month - a) cos I didn't have the confidence to put on a tshirt and shorts and go for a run outside and b) I wanted to build up some level of stamina before I ventured outside.

Good luck.

Josh, what did you do to lose so much weight? Can you let me know your routine? I know everyone is different but having a place to start would be great.

I'm a gamer too, and I had the same problem you have. I never really cared for sports and the like, but one day I looked into the mirror and said to myself "This is gonna kill you if you don't start losing weight". I'm 5'7'' and used to weigh 264 lbs. Now, 16 months later, I'm finally down to 145.5 lbs.

Believe me, if even I could do it, you can do it too. I know you can.

Any sort of activity helps. It really isnt worth worrying about what other people think.

The rest of the world is split up among three kinds of people:
- people that are so stupid - there is no need to care what they think... frankly - the term "think" is out of context regarding them
- people who do not care what other people do
- supportive people that cheer you on - or would if they saw you...

With a bmi of 33.2 your weight (although you could do with losing some weight) is not nearly as embarrassingly big as you seem to think... LOL my max bmi was 52...

I would encourage you to run or do any fun activity that you fancy... It can only help your weight loss. The more that you do - the better you will get...

We can spend our lives on the sidelines wishing to join in - or we can make it happen...

I've created a diary, I honestly do not know where to start or how to do this. I want to do this. I need to do this.

Two good places to start today are:
- drink more water - most people do not drink enough
- become more active - even if it means "go out for a walk"

Hi mate,

After our first daughter was born my wife bought a Nintendo Wii (about 3 years ago) and she only used it a little so when our 2nd was born 4 months ago we decided to get it out again. That put to bed any excuses I had about going to the gym etc and so now I had something I could do every day.

I started off with 30-40 mins of a mix of boxing, steps and jogging on the spot using Wii Fit. As I work from home I would do 15-20 mins in the morning and 15-20 mins in the evening EVERY DAY. Just enough to get a sweat on.

After about 3 weeks of this my fitness level improved and I was doing 20-30 mins twice a day and I bought a cheap rowing machine off Ebay and used that every other day doing the Wii Fit stuff on the other days. For the past week I have taken to running outdoors and yesterday did a 5.3 mile run.

I have a sedentary desk bound job so I needed stuff I can do at home and also in between looking after the kids and putting them to bed in the evening meant Gym is not an option.

I also made some serious changes to my diet - I now have breakfast every day.

Typical week day now

Breakfast: Banana and cereal (Bran Flakes and Special K) with soya or almond milk
Lunch: Chicken or Egg and Pasta or Couscous with roasted vegetables, dried fruit and nuts and maybe some yoghurt or creme fraiche and I douse everything in tabasco (chillis is good for your metabolism)
Dinner: Big fruit salad (pineapple, melon, kiwi, blueberries) and or cereal

Drinks:
3-4 Liters of low sugar squash a day (the hard water in my area from the tap is undrinkable)
1-2 cups of green tea
1-2 cups of normal tea but with soya milk

Weekends I tend to eat differently and cos we're in BBQ season I have gorged on chicken, sausages, burgers and allowed myself a few beers but continuing my work out.
