Hi!

I'm Anne, 21 years old and from the Netherlands.
I started gaining weight in the first few years of highschool but then managed to keep a steady weight during the last few years.
But since I moved out I started gaining weight again. The numbers on the scale stared growing, but my dream to become fit and healthy did aswell.
I have been on a few diets and exercise programs lately but I have a hard time making them part of my daily life.
I think my biggest problem is the lack of patience. I am starting to get to the point that I realize that I can't get in shape in a week. And that I am definately not getting there by starting one crazy-intense workout program after another hollywood-crashdiet.
I feel like I need to create a habbit to get to where I want to be, but that is going to take some time and effort.

But that also means that I have to stay motivated and focussed a lot longer, and I guess that's why I signed up here.
Is there anyone out there with the same experience? Or has been at this point aswell/already?

Hi Anne and welcome! Yes, fatloss does require patience in that it takes a while and there has to be a change in lifestyle for it to be permanent. In it's simplest form, it's calories taken in and how many calories spent. I'd first say to figure out the calories in what your eating daily and what your daily calorie requirements are. There are many calculators on the Internet and people here can help you figure that out too.

Motivation for me comes from realizing what a lot of excess weight does to the body, it's terribly unhealthy and greatly increases the risk of many diseases. Don't forget there is a lot of fat on the insides of the body too in a overfat person, restricting organs from functioning normally and releasing toxins.

Besides it just physically feels terrible with lots of weight on your body, there's nothing good that comes from it.

It's mostly a mental thing Anne, talk yourself into wanting to stay healthy and physically able.

Welcome to the forum.

Many of us would love immediate results - but healthy weight loss does take time. We need time to learn how to eat and act healthily. Looking at the big picture - the important thing is that we get the results that we are looking for and not how long it takes... For instance a year can seem a long time looking forward - but it can seem next to no time looking back.

Since the most successful way to lose weight and keep it off is to adopt a new lifestyle for the rest of your life - in some ways it is going to take forever - not just the time that it takes to get to your goal weight...

Staying with a project for a long time does take an element of patience. More importantly it requires a level of forgiving yourself. Just about everyone slips up at some point - and needs to get back on track. Beating yourself up for making unwise food choices does not help you - it just makes you thing "I've ended my diet - I can eat what I want".

Good luck with your project
