I've lost a significant amount of weight this summer. At 6'4 I went from almost 380 pounds to 320 pounds, which I know is still overweight by a long shot, but one step at a time. Since my summer job has finished, and I'm waiting for my final bout of schooling to begin, I've gotten into the habit of walking for about an hour a day, or walking/jogging an 89 stair behemoth for 20-30 minutes.

However, I'm falling victim to the same vices that killed me before, and that's improper eating. I start my day off well enough, I make an effort to eat properly, and usually with my three meals a day that's the case, however, when 8 O'clock rolls around I get a twinge, and start snacking, and then it's just a downward spiral of negativity.

I'm hoping that by opening myself up on here I can control that, and I'm going to take advantage of the Journal section of these forums. I'm very happy I've found this, I feel like this is what I need in order to get to that next level. My goal is to be down 60 pounds by late january, which may be unrealistic, I'm not 100% sure, but I feel as though, if I work hard, and keep myself occupied, and start controlling myself, it's something I can accomplish. Inactivity and self-pity led me here, and I'm hoping that hard work and self-discipline can lead me out, and I really appreciate how supportive these forums are.

Anyway, thanks for taking the team to read my spiel, and I really look forward to meeting people on here.

Hey John

First of all congratulations.

To be honest with you as long as your calories out > calories in you will lose weight no matter what you eat.

I eat pastries, chocolate, muffins everyday and still lose weight.

Don't get me wrong I think its important to eat fruit/veg but i've always eaten these other things and would have found it difficult to stop eating them whilst dieting.

In the past I used to think if I ever eat anything 'unhealthy' like a chocolate bar instead of a piece of fruit that I had ruined my diet but I was being overdramatic.

In the end what counts is results.

Keep me posted.

Hey Jonathon, welcome to the forum!

I think journalling is a great idea for you! If you are honest with yourself about what you're eating all day long, you might start to see ways that you can reduce your calorie intake a bit each day while still allowing yourself some of those foods that you love to eat!
