Hi, I'm a newbie. I have a lot of weight to lose and thought I'd see what was out on the Internet.

I have sleep apnea, high blood pressure and diabetes. I'm only 32. My perscriptions are keeping the above in check but the doc says if I lose weight I could get off the scripts. So here I am. :)

Anyone have some good recommendations of places for me to start? I'm not sure if a specific diet would be good or a nutritionist or?? There are so many choices!!

Welcome!

Your health will definitely improve and medications might be unnecessary if you become healthy. I would suggest to start slowly in weight loss, do things like cut out sugary drinks like soda & fruit juice and replace them with water, unsweetened tea or a low calorie drink like Crystal Light. That usually kicks off weight loss for most people because it immediately cuts anywhere from 100 to 1000 calories for a lot of people. Seeing that there are 3500 calories in a pound, the effect is apparent.

From there you can begin calorie counting and see where you gain most of your weight. You can start to change your diet slowly and get into an interval of weight which will give you loss. To find that interval you should find your BMR (there are many calculators for this like ) and figure out where you should target for weight loss of 1-2 pounds a week.

Once you get used to that, you can start making major changes. Healthier alternatives to what you eat, daily exercise and things like that. Implement them slowly as you move on and take your time. You want a life change, not a temporary change, so you want to take time to become comfortable with the changes you are making.

Good luck!
