Hi

So a little bit about myself! I am 23 years old and weigh 219 pounds! I have struggled with my weight my entire life!! In 2005, I went to my family doctor and he prescribed me a weight loss drug. Of course, over the next 8 months I had lost a lot of weight, my lowest weight was 168 ( I wore a size 10) and I was THIN!! My self-confidence was great. Well of course those pills made me not hungry at all. If i tried to eat more than a few bites of food I would get sick. So these pills took the weight off, but I never learned how to eat correctly and exercise. Once I started college in the Fall of 2006, it started to go down hill from there. I started going out and partying. Endless amount of alcohol and 2am runs to McDonalds! So tonight, I was watching the show HEAVY and started crying. I feel for those people and I realize I cannot let myself gain anymore weight. I need and most importantly WANT to change now.
Another thing that made me resort to food was that my mother and I did not get along at all. She would call me ugly and fat. And even told me that no one would ever want me because I was FAT! So I still resorted to food because food is always there for you, and it doesn't yell at your or give you negative criticism. So I am getting married in JUNE! June 4th in Disney World.

I need to lose some weight before the wedding. I'm aiming for 20 - 30 pounds.

I am still looking for a job and money is very tight for my fiance and I. I cannot join a gym, but I received a Wii for a Christmas gifts a few years ago, and have a biggest loser game that I plan to start using.

Any suggestions on shopping for healthy food on a tight budget and exercising from home?

Thanks! ~ASH~

Hi Ash

Congralutions on your upcoming wedding :) That is so exciting and a brilliant goal.

When planning your meals they don't have to be unsatisfying leafy affairs. If you start right now you can have that relationship with food that is healthy and your not living in fear of eating.

Alot of options to make food healthier come from the way you cook food i.e. grilling, steaming etc. Instead of a fried egg have a soft boiled egg.

Baked beans over a jacket potato (with no butter) is one of the cheapest, healthiest foods I know and it is heavy enough to fill you up. I add plum tomatoes to the beans and a little garlic for extra flavour.

What's your worse eating habit? We will try and help you overcome it or change it so its healthier.

Walking is great exercise and free.

My worst eating habit is eating too much at a sitting, and not choosing the right foods. I don't care for sweets...I normally eat natural almonds for snacks. I just go into the store and freak out when I see how much the fresh fruit and veggies are and head straight for the cheap junk food (pizza, chicken nuggets, tator tots). I feel guilty once I get home.

I know what you mean fresh fruit and veg can cost a fortune. I've started shopping at the cheaper stores like Aldi, Lidl etc. They often have offers on the fresh fruit and veg and its alot cheaper than the big supermarkets. Otherwise alot of the supermarkets have certain fresh foods on different offers, perhaps you could buy some of those?

For my wedding (10 years ago now) I brought my dream dress two sizes too small. I even had to sign a disclaimer saying they'd suggested I had a bigger size and they weren't responsible for my choice. This was in November and we were getting married in March. I brought a little mini stepper machine £20 out of Argos and I went on it every night for 4 months. I lost so much weight that the dress had to be taken in. Unfortunately it was unsustainable to maintain that level of exercise once the wedding was over. When I had my son I really ballooned to where I am today. I wish I'd had the forethought back then to make concious decisions about my weight and lifestyle. Still I'm here now.

I do have the high stepper gadget for my Wii gaming system! I will definitely have to start doing that! We live in an apartment and space is limited for exercise, but that can be done in a small place. :) I actually ordered my dress one size smaller for motivation to lose weight! The sample I tried on in the store was a 24 (obviously wedding dress sizes run small because I don't wear that size in normal clothing) so I ordered the 22. Well it came in and it fit perfectly! I don't know what happened with that, but I hadn't lost any weight from when I tried on the 24 and when the 22 came in.

I will try and shop around at different stores for fresh fruit/veggie prices.
