hi everyone..i am anita...new here.. started my weight loss program starting monday...im starting at 171 lbs and have to go to about 110 lbs..i always run short of motivation every time i start a weightloss prgram..this time i wanna do it and lose atleast 30 -40 lbs by october as its my first anniversary(wedding anniversary)then..just want to keep going....

Hi Anita, welcome to the community. Nice to have ya.

Why do you "have to" get to 110 lbs?

Also, why do you think you lose motivation? In fact, what is the driving force behind your desire to lose weight?

You'd like to lose 30-40 lbs in a month and a half? Ya know, they say failing to plan is planning to fail. However, around here, I see more people make plans that are near impossible and beyond rigid and in my experience... they're setting themselves up for failure from the start.

Something to think about.

In general, a good target rate of weight loss is 1% of total body weight per week. If you do the math, I think you'll see you might be overzealous with your goal. I'd much sooner see you start out on the right foot with a mindset less focused on the numbers and more focused on your health, appearance, ability, etc.
 
this is something i never thought of...i kind of knew i was being too ambitious....i always see that i start of really well and then midway i just lose motivation to keep going...so this time wat i did was since last month i have been making it a practice to just hit the gym atleast 4 times a week...now im getting into the groove.....the problem is not that i dont want to workout rather it is tarining my body and mind to get up and get going..
i recognise my problems and just tend to ignore them..(see !!i know that too)...i need to challenge myself and get it done this time ..
 
One of the biggest obstacles we all face is appropriate management of expectations. If you're expecting something that isn't likely or worse, impossible, chances are you aren't going to stick to any sort of lifestyle change you're putting together.

I would focus on doing the job every day - make the weight loss reward more incidental. Obviously we all notice them and celebrate each and every milestone - but we should be feeling good about the days where we get a touch healthier without a reward at the scales too.

Feel good every day that you meet your exercise target. Feel even better on those days that you hit your nutritional targets too.

Do not make your nutritional targets all about calories - I think of that as just being about a magic number - make it about making sure that your body gets enough of the things that it needs - protein, fibre, calcium, healthy fats etc. It is good to keep an eye on the calories too - but too many people make it all about that and not on the quality. In my experience a healthy diet tends towards being lower in calories anyway... I think that it is easier to keep up permanently too as I cannot really see me counting calories every day for the rest of my life.

I agree with Steve about your target setting you up for a fall. Surely it is better to work hard for your health from now onwards and accept the healthier body that comes with that in it's natural time. You are bound to be seeing some great changes by your wedding anniversary - and it is not like it makes sense to go back to your old lifestyle as you hit the magic weight that you have set your heart on. We all know that would just lead you to put back on all the weight that you lose. As you become more toned you may decide that you look better at a different weight anyway. Surely it is all about making your shape right for your frame and not about the number in itself. It is not like we go through life with our weight tattood on our foreheads...

what caught my interest is u mentioned pcos....which i know cos im suffering it too....iknow with pcos all the possibly worst things cud happen..u gain weight quickly and u find it equally difficult to shed the pounds...i have been able to lose about 20 lbs over the past 5 months....i try to make it to the gym like 4 times a week ..i like to use the treadmill and walk for about 3 to 4 miles at 3.8 -4.2 mph...
have u taken any medications for it.??

Bringing in something that you have posted elsewhere - I have to say as a PCOS lady that there is no way that you could hit your target for your wedding anniversary. You are losing weight at about a pound a week and you should consider this to be a great rate of weight loss.

I only managed a better rate of weight loss than that at your weight by walking further than you every day. I have a treadmill at home and I tend to go at between 4.0 and 4.3 mph. I have cut down to 6.5 miles every day in maintenance... I walked 11 miles a day during the bulk of my weightloss. I kept putting my distance up when my rate of weight loss slowed down. I do other forms of exercise too. I am not saying what I do is ideal - but Abbagirl and I both swear by our treadmills for for being particularly good for PCOS ladies. We find it has a calming effect which can help our emotional peak/trough view of the world. It is great to feel that you are doing something productive about the weight too. They always say that the best thing that PCOS ladies can do is bring their weight down to the normal range and keep it there.

Even so - I never lost the 30 to 40 pounds in a month and a half that you proposed.
