Hi everyone,
I am new but I'm glad I found you, I am trying to make a change and lately have been failing miserably. I haven't gone all the way back but I am slipping and I need some motivation.

I am trying to get to a healthy weight. I am currently 5' 3" and over 200lbs. I have been very successful on Atkins. It gives me some peace from the desire of food, but it can be a little boring. Unfortunately I slipped off my routine and fell off the wagon. It's funny how you can be derailed by something as simple as a whole grain fruit and nut bagel. If I want to get to my goal of 130 - 140 in a year I need to get back on the bus instead of being under it.

I know it is not the greatest exercise for the joints but I would like to run and I started a couch to 5 K program of running and walking. I walked a 5k at the end if last month and would like to do one a month through out the summer months so it will motivate me to continue to train. I am currently walking for 5 mins and running or chugging as I call it for 1 min on about a 3 mile walk. I am trying to not let it bother me that I must look ridiculous while I am chugging, at least I am not on the couch any more watching someone else chug. It is hard but I like being outside and I know that eventually I will graduate from chugging to running.

Well I feel better already, tomorrow is a new day! Post and let me know how you are doing!

Hi everyone,

An eating regiment is only as good as your ability to stick to it. If you can't adhere to atkins because of the rigidity of it all... it might not be for you. Mind you... all diet plans work when implemented consistently. They're all based on the the same fundamental principles. It's a matter of finding which one suits you, individually, best.

It also seems like you've got that whole 'all-or-nothing' mentality going on. Many of us do, unfortunately. Like, "I'm not supposed to eat grains but if I happen to slip, I might as well pig out for a day (or a week or a month) since I screwed up once."

That's not only illogical... it's also destructive to your progress which you seem to be finding out.

It happens to the best of us... but you must find a way to identify and change that mentality.

Welcome to the community, btw. :)

we actually have about the same stats! and my goal is about the same as yours...

i recently got a the leslie sansone's 4 mile slim walk... oh my gosh!!! i love it it also came with a one mile jog... i did 10 miles yesterday... when my goal was only two... of course my calves are a little sore today... haha im not really sure what im getting at with this... oh well!

i hope you continue to happily chug along... eventually running! and if you would like some more support i would be happy to oblige!

Your both right

I do have an all or nothing thing going on and I do need encouragement.

I think that Atkins does work for me because it cuts out most bread, pasta and sugars. All of which will spike your blood sugar and make you hungry. I am trying to keep my meals simple and light now. I recognize that I must eat a little more carbs than are allowed so I have the energy to exercise but that is no excuse to pig out.:piggy:
I also recognize that I can't call it Atkins if I am not following the entire program, so let's just call it trying to eat healthy and light. :)

I am going to keep up my exercise and we'll see what happens.

Thank you for the encouragement,

Bni
