Hey there, I just stumbled upon this group and joined. I am a weight loss coach and currently losing my remaining weight...today about 38 lbs. I don't believe in diet 'pills, potions, etc.'. It's all about being conscious of what and how much your eating, eating well rounded, moving your body and attitude!!

So glad to be a part of your community. You can call me Steph or Stephanie. :newbie:

Hi Steph. Welcome to our forum. It sounds like you will fit right in here.

I am sure that you have discovered the great sections on exercise and nutrition - much of of which may be old news to you - but I think that we never stop learning new things...

You may also like to investigate our clubs and challenges section. They are great places for making friends.

Many of us like to add a ticker in our signature to show our journey - the instructions are in the sticky thread in the newcomers section that Korrie wrote...

Now I will start being nosey and asking how long you have been on your project and such details?

I am sure that the last 38 pounds will be gone really soon for you...

Margaret

Hi Margaret~ I haven't spent too much time poking around here yet, but soon you will see me posting posting posting :)

I want to add a weight loss ticker to my siggy, where is the sticky, could you point me to it? I tried to find it...

My weight loss journey has been on and off for a while, like many. June 08, I got serious and knocked off 24 lbs. then got relaxed..... and have been holding since....about a month ago, I decided to get with the program again. I quasi follow weight watchers, primarily for the support meetings and to have an accountable day for weighing in etc. I am fortunate that weight seems to melt off of me when I want it to. So, I plan to knock the rest of the 38 lbs. off and be a 'skinny bitch'..lol.

I see you have come along way from your ticker, congratulations - how have you found your success?

You are fortunate to be able to lose weight easily. Many of us here find things a little more of a challenge. I

Thanks for your kind comment about my weight loss. You ask about my story...

I started my weight loss journey in Feb 2007 as a veteran of many failed weight loss attempts. They are made extra difficult because I am a PCOS lady.

I started by walking every day - slowly because I did everything slowly back then. I made sure that I went out every day though. Every time that I could go further I did so. Very soon I was walking miles every day. At the same time I cut out junk food.

I started wearing a pedometer for every step of the day and allowed it to challenge me to walk more than the less healthy me of the day before.

As time went by I improved my eating habits - cutting out things that I thought could be fattening and eating as healthily as I knew how. Weight did come off - and every time that things slowed down I increased my walking further and further. By that summer I was basically doing some 10 or 11 miles every day.

I hit a plateau that I couldnt resolve in the normal method in the late summer and it was when researching what I could do to address things that I found this forum.

I started attending keep fit lessons and bringing all sorts of other forms of exercise into the mix. Walking continued to be my main daily form of exercise though.

I learnt so much about nutrition here. I discovered how useful a free account from could be. It not only counted calories (and I was fully aware from all the failed diet attempts how to do that) - but showed such things as the calorie balance and a breakdown of the nutrients in the diet. I learnt how to calculate how much of everything I should be having if I wanted to eat really healthily. I honed things.

Since WW points for example are a calculation based on calories and saturated fat - you are able to be much more specific about what you should and should not eat.

I continue to have to work very hard to control my weight in maintenance.

Welcome to the community :)

What exactly is a weight loss coach?

Hi Steve, thanks for the warm welcome. Great question, I'm so glad you asked.

You know how singers work with voice coaches, or people work with personal trainers at a gym? I work with clients people who are highly motivated and on a weight loss journey and just want some extra support. Sometimes it's to help them set their weight goals and an action plan to get them there, other times I am their accountability partner, etc. I provide assistance in numerous ways. I have found that clients have weight loss as their goal but through the coaching process there are other things that come up they want to put energy toward first. Most importantly I help people identify what is stopping them from success. Once an obstacle is identified I work with the client to get him/her over that obstacle. Most people are just 'stuck' but don't know how to get unstuck :)

Long answer for such a simple question :) Tell me about yourself!

PCOS, not familiar with that...what is? I can't seem to find the ticker stuff, can you point me in the right direction? HELP :

I am very surprised that you have not heard of PCOS since many of your clients may well suffer from it (since weight gain is a regular consequence). Special dietary advice is appropriate for such people....

Tell me about your qualifications to be such a weight loss coach. I know that the personal trainers that you compare your activities with have to gain certain qualifications to be able to operate.

The ticker instructions are here...

It didnt seem to copy in the link the last time that I tried to paste it in...

Ditto that.

So what's the difference between a personal trainer and a weight loss coach? Does calling oneself a WLC require any sort of schooling or certifications? If not, aren't you taking on a huge liability by putting someone's health in your hands without the necessary education?

I'm not trying to shoot you down. You sound passionate and I'm sure you help people. I'm simply curious as to how it all works and how it compares to personal training.

I am curious too - since I am very interested in the whole area of weight loss. My previous career (although successful) became mundane so I gave it up - and I may be interested in exploring such avenues myself.
