Hi there, I am 17 years old and 260 pounds and 6ft 2 and ive decided to change the way i live as i know this is REALLY not a good weight for my health. ive started going on 1 hour jogs a day and i am going to purchase a bike this week and start cycling to work (5.5 miles) what i want to know is i was going to try a cereal for breakfast a sandwhich for lunch (ham, chicken etc) with a portion of fruit and then for dinner another bowl of cereal and throughout the day drink PLENTY of water. does this soung like it would help me slowly but surely loose weight?
I'm sure you'll lose weight but this doesn't sound very healthy or balanced, or something you can stick with forever. There's nothing wrong with cereal and sandwiches but a whole diet based on that is not healthy, not to mention it's going to get old fast. Plus I didn't see any mention of veggies in there.
You're better off to figure out the calorie range thats best for you and then stick to it and try to eat healthy and balanced. If you need more info there's tons in the stickies about nutrition. To figure out how many calories you should eat there's various ways of doing it. You can either search online for a BMR calculator or Harris Bendict's equation, then go 500-1000 below that to create a deficit.
Also there are sites like fitday where you can log your food and it counts your calories for you and even breaks down the percentages of fats, protein, etc so you can adjust accordingly. Anyway whatever you do needs to be a lifestyle change, something you can stick to. Not that you won't have slip ups cuz that's life too But if you're making healthy choices most the time you're going to see results, especially with the exercise you're doing. Good luck ~Lisa
