I'm a 33 y.o. gay man, living in California with my partner. I've slowly put on weight over the past 3 years and am now about 40-50 lbs over my ideal weight. I've been a vegetarian for 13 years, so just goes to show you that you can be veggie and overweight.

My issues:
* consistency! I need to develop a routine because my body really responds well to one. However, I'm the most inconsistent person I know...I go to sleep and wake up at different times every day, I never follow any sort of routine, etc.
* eating too much. I generally eat healthy and avoid junk food--like most men, I just eat a lot. I eat way too quickly and end up eating too much.
* eating when I get bored or when I'm procrastinating
* inconsistent exercise regimen--I work out 5x a week one week, then 0-1 times the next. What happened?!?!

I pretty much know *what* to do (eat/exercise more consistently, eat slowly, drink water, avoid food when bored, etc.) ... I think *all* of us know *what* we need to do. The hard part is the *how*.

Anyway, will try to force myself into a schedule over the next couple of weeks and see how it goes.:D

Hi from another newbie.

I totally agree with you about the consistency. It's all about developing routines and good habits, which are so hard to do!!! But I think being a part of a forum like this is such a good idea. Because when I'm regulary talking about it or discussing it with other people it tends to keep it in the front of my mind.

I had an old teacher once tell the class that "organization is the key to success". And I believe that's so true and even more so today when the big hype is keeping our homes and lives organized. Well, I bet if we could do the same with our eating we could lose weight so much faster and then keep it off!!!!

Good luck to you.

Hi predebo,
Welcome to the forum. How true, consistency is the key. It’s like bringing up a child… the moment you falter it rebel’s lol. To slow down on you’re eating after each mouth full put down your knife and fork. It is a pain to do but it dose slow you down and it gives your body time to tell you when it’s full. When your bored before you eat something make your self do 5 sit ups before you eat, you will be surprised how quick you think you’re not really that hungry lol. I think we all no what we have to do but some times we just need a bit of encouragement or a push in the right direction. Have a good week.

thank you

Thank you Scarlett and rosered, for the words of encouragement and advice. I'm starting off this morning with my smoothie and hope to enjoy one every morning at this time, so let's see if my body responds to the routine.
Good advice rosered about putting down the utensils at each bite, and doing situps when I'm bored. Will definitely try them!
Happy Monday to everyone!

Hi, Predebo & Scarlett Welcome.

I'm just starting out to so I don't have any advice to give but I can relate to not being consistent. I think routines are a great thing.

That is about the size of it. It seems so complex but it really does come down to "eat less/exercise more."
