Hi, New Here

Hi everyone,

I am new to these forums and working out :newbie::
I am 31 and this is the first time I have actively worked out since high school.
I hope I do not annoy everyone with my very basic questions.

See you in the forums...

Welcome to the forum

Don't worry, we wont be annoyed. We're used to the questions.
Take a look at the stickies as well for a lot of basic info.

What are your current goals?

Well my goals are to get rid of this gut and manboobs lol.

Seriously though I just joined a gym about 3 weeks ago and like a fool I did not weigh myself that first week but when I did I was at 228. I would like to get to 200 if not lower.

I met with a personal trainer and she put me on a simple circuit and cardio for starters. The max weight she has me lifting is no more than 50 lbs on the machines. And 45 minutes of cardio. (yes I am that out of shape). She asked me what my target weight was and I said 180-190lbs she said that was too much. And that the BMI scale is so skewed that 200 is probably best. I am 5'9" 228lbs starting out.

I go to the gym at least 3 day a week if not 4 depending on what I have going on with work and my children.

I'll give you a piece of advice.

Get rid of your trainer, she is an idiot and so are 90% of all trainers. Save your money, we are your new personal trainers.

Take a look at the weight loss and weight training stickies.
One of the first things you need to do is calculate your maintenance calories

heres a calculator for that

I have been 5'9" and 228. Actually i have been 240.

Today I weigh 179, but that is a bit lower than i like. i have been on a major endurance build week tho.

I tell you that so you will know- YOU CAN DO THIS!

Welcome to the forum.

Oh and in case nobody has the choneys to tell ya- ditch that trainer, depending on what she looks like........ ;)

Welcome to the FORUM!

And, Phate:

Especially the first year "Rookies". ;)

I wouldnt hire a first year "Rookie" if my life dependended on it (one that obtained their credentials, and just starting out). I want one with their feet wet, and "many years" of personal and practical experience (working with a variety of clients). I interview the trainer, not the other way around. But, this is just my humble opinion.

There are some very good trainers out there though.

If one can't afford to hire a trainer, one has to invest time to garner knowledge, and become their own personal trainer. And, it can be done, and I proof it can be done within ones personal goals, baby......even middle aged, and lost a step do to being past my prime.

ROCK ON!

Glad to have you as a forum member!

Best regards,

Chillen
