Hi guys,

I am new here, and working on dropping some pounds.

I am currently 253lbs and 5'7" at age 26. I have a few questions about heart rate.

It seems like when ever I go out to jog my heart rate monitor tells me my average heart rate is 140, but every where I read is saying that it is to heigh for my age and shape. It seems that even if I just walk at a fast pace my heart rate is around 120 to 130, and any running at all will bump it to 160.

I was wondering if these numbers are too high or if anybody had any advice on getting the right heart rate to maximize my workout.

Welcome to the Forum!

From my understanding of heart rates, you seem to be in a good range. I found this from the american heart association as close to your target heartrate:

Age
25 years
Target Range
98–166 beats per minute
Maximum BMP
195 beats per minute

If you haven't already, I'd recommend seeing your doctor so he can clear you for exercise and perhaps give you a goal heartrate.
