Hi everyone!!

Excited that I located this forum. Have been reading posts and feel inspired.
My name is Joan and I will be turning 52 in a few weeks. Unfortunately, I have to say in the last 3 years I have gained 52 pounds. I packed on all of the weight since having a hystrectomy 3 years ago.

I am finally holding myself accountable and really want to get back to walking, something I love to do, and eating healthy and low cal.

Currently, I weight 178 pounds . . . looking to lose about 40 pounds. Probably not the best time of year to start a diet with the holidays and all, but I'm not going to let that stop me. Anyway, I don't need to gain more weight.

So any support, advice, tips you can give me, will be much appreciated . . . especially with snacking at night.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Joan

Hi Joan and welcome. Your around the same age and weight as I am. I have lost 33lbs so far this year counting calories. I like to have a snack at night so I do. I just work in into my calorie count. I found it really helps to allow myself that snack at night. I eat different things like fruit, cheese and crackers, hot chocolate (now it getting cooler) pudding. I am finding that by adjusting my diet to allow things I really love at times also helps.

Hi Joan,

I agree with Lyn. Counting calories is the way to go. It may be tedious at times but it gives your new regiment much needed structure and puts you on the right track. Fitday is a great place for this.

I'm glad that you didn't cop out and wait until the new year to start your program. It shows you have willpower and determination.

See ya round

Lyn and Tony,

Thanks for your posts. Calorie counting sounds like a plan. Is there any specific forumula to figure out how many calories I should eat per day to lose weight? I'm guessing I should eat between 1,200 and 1,400 per day. Tomorrow begins the first day of my new way of life!! Gotta break my food addiction!

hey again,

here's a good site to figure your daily caloric needs and what you would need to eat to lose weight:

Hi Joan!

Hear hear. Walking is underestimated but you'll see around this site that it's wrought great results for a lot of people- and is doing so for myself, too. I'm currently seeing success with weight loss and have done nothing more than you're planning to do- started walking more (around 3 miles each day, at the moment) and just improving my day to day diet- no crash courses or gimmick diets, just common sense- it also helps to hold one's self accountable with a food dairy, indeed- something you could do right here on the site, just be honest and write down each and every thing that passes your lips each day.

Best of luck with your endeavour!

Thanks Caiman!

Our thoughts are the same . . . change of diet, walking - no gimmicks. Just started this week . . . looking forward to good results!!

Have a great day!
