Hi, My Name's Failure.

Failure

New member
Hi, my name is Failure, I'm new to this forum and I'm here for some advice and new ideas. Here are my stats:

Age: 18
Gender: Female
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 124 lbs.
BMI: 20
Bust: 37 inches
Waist: 27.5 inches
Hips: 38 inches
Left/Right Thigh: 19 inches
Left/Right Upper Arm: 9.5 inches

I guess I'm mainly here for tips on how to lose some inches off my whole body, and lose about 10-15 lbs. Here are my goals:

Weight: 110ish lbs.
Bust: 34 inches
Waist: 24 inches
Hips: 34 inches
Left/Right Thigh: 16 inches
Left/Right Upper Arm: 8 inches

I should also tell you about my lifestyle if that will help any. I'm a strict Vegetarian, turning Vegan. For the most part I eat pretty healthy. I do have the occasional junk food, which I want to change and learn to have none. I also need to learn some control, and I need a LOT of motivation. I used to be a ballerina/gymnast and working out 7 days a week. And I did that for 14 years. Being out of that scene for about 2-3 years now I've found myself extremely out of shape. I also have many health problems, which forced me out of the two things I loved(Ballet/Gymnastics) as well as school. It's gotten me depressed being home so much, and now I lack motivation to do anything. I did get into a routine for a while exercising from 3-12 hours a day. But, that didn't last as long as I would've liked it too. I'm the kind of person that likes constant change, so doing the same exercise becomes tedious. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi, and welcome to WLF.

The first thing I would change -- your login name. You won't get anywhere thinking you're a failure. Sure, those 14 extra pounds seem like a lot to you, but with some simple changes in your life, you can change your life for the better.

You mentioned that you stopped exercising. That is the first thing you can fix. Just get in the habit of doing some exercise you like. Force yourself to do it, even on the days you don't feel like it. You'll gradually regain that sense of well being you had when you were dancing.

Motivation's a tough one. What motivated me (fear of getting a heart attack, type 2 diabetes, and other problems) obviously won't motivate you. So you have to find your own source of motivation.

Have a look at the Index of WLF "Keepers" in the On Topic forum. You'll find lots of great posts there that should help you get started.

Tom is right!

The absolute first thing you need to fix is your name and your attitude about getting healthy. The most important lesson I ever took out of English in high school was not how to write an essay, or spell words correktly :))) or anything like that. It was about a little thing called "Self Fulfilling Prophecy".

What that is in a nutshell is the idea that is you tell someone something long enough (including yourself) you begin to believe it, when you believe it you become it, positive or neagative. So essentially, if you tell yourself long enough that you are a failure, you will be, bottom line. Hardly a way to motivate yourself. I am sure you will find many MANY people on this group that find that particular name very negative and self destructive.

You are young and really dont have too far to go to get to your goals, certainly nothing requiring heavy duty drastic action. 3-12(?) hours a day of exercise is simply counterproductive. Do some reading here, ask some questions, and try to find some motivation with the people here who know so much and are willing and able to help.

But please do change that name. It is a seriously bad idea to express so much negativity, even at yourself, on a support site.

Sorry, but I have to agree with the guys........you are destined to fail if you believe you will. I hope these ideas may help you:

My daughter was also a gymnast for about 8 years and before she injured herself and had to stop with the heavy competition and training, she was at the gym 28-32 hours per week. When she stopped this, it really depressed her and she also gained weight. Like you, not a lot of weight, but enough she did not feel good about herself. This lasted for 1.5 years or 2 years where she was rather up and down emotionally.

Today she is a very happy college freshmen. Here is what she knows: as a gymnast she has found Pilates to be a wonderful form of exercise. While she does not have the ultra-slim, lean muscular gymnast's body from all this training, she does again have long, lean muscles and good tone. She joined a sorority at school because she learned that these years at the gym were important to her because of the close friendships with the girls. This network is very important to her, and may be to you also.

Think about what you have valued and what you have learned during these years and you will find the direction that can bring you happiness.

Good luck in moving forward. Step confidently in the direction of your dreams. You know how to set goals and you know how to reach goals. Believe in yourself and you can make it happen.

The other thing I would add is this.

When I was 18, life was a bundle of contradictions. On the one hand, I was convinced I would live forever -- well, maybe not forever, but at least 150 years.

On the other hand, "failures" took on an air of permanence; they seemed far more catastrophic than they really were.

Now, with 40 years of hindsight, my views have reversed.

I'm struggling to live to 80, much less 150. Death is not an abstraction; it's a very real thing that, even if it doesn't affect me, has affected many people I know who are my age or a bit older.

And the "catastrophes" of my youth -- mere blips. Time passes, life goes on, and you find that these "failures" are nothing more than character builders that will ultimately make you a better person.

Yet another reason not to give yourself a moniker like that one! :)

Thank you so much you three. And thanks Tom for that thread of useful links. I tried HIIT today for the first time, and I felt so ill. But, I knew I did it right if I was feeling that exhausted. I've also decided that my new name is "Determination" and that I will get down to my goal weight, and maybe lose a few more lbs. after that. I can't wait to have the body I want.

Hello!

Just wanted to say that we have close to the same goals! Except I'm 42 ( 43 next week) lol
I'm 5'4" 119 pounds Bust 37- Waist 27- Hips 37......
I've been cutting back on the calories a little & increasing my exercise.
My goal is around 110 as well & hoping to lose a couple of inches from each measurement too....
Good luck! I've really found my motivation this last couple of weeks. This place is a huge help.

Good for you, Determination!!

Have you done any interval training at all? If not, I would do that before HIIT. HIIT is VERY taxing on your body, and you need to work up to it. There are some great soundtracks that I use for interval training on Cardio Power Fitness Music | Music for Fitness | Cardio Music Workouts | Cardio MP3 Downloads for iPods.

Yeah - I was pretty much indestructible at that age

Is there a problem with that ticker??

Do any of you know (roughly) how many calories you burn while doing HIIT?

Do you really want to weigh 75 pounds??? Seems extreme.

HIIT is not as valuable in burning calories during the workout as it is in the amount of time it continues burning afterwards. My HIIT sessions last 12 minutes exactly. So not much initial burn, but a heck of a sustained burn later theoretically.

Truth be told I havent done HIIT in a couple weeks now. I am losing weight like crazy just by running daily and eating right. I like the idea of HIIT, but to do it correctly is very VERY difficult, physically and mentally. I suppose it wouldnt hurt me to do it a coupe times a week, and it is only 12 minutes....

hi, a weight of 75 lbs at 5` 6" gives a body mass index of 12.10. this is dangerously low (anything under 18.5 is classed as underweight) and can have serious consequences.dont want to lecture but maybe you could have a talk with your family or someone close to you or your doctor.take care slim
