Hey Everyone! I am not exactly a new member but I haven't been on here in a LONG time. Whenever I have time to post my full story I will definitely do that. But to make a long story short for now...I was scheduled to have laproscopic gastric bypass on 3/14/2005...I went through the process of getting approved and everything for about 4 months. Two days before my surgery, I completely freaked out and I backed out and decided to try to lose the weight on my own for ONE LAST FOR SURE TRY!! I have lost almost 40lbs. I was 240lbs then...now I am 201lbs. I was a Size 18 now I am a loose Size 14..tight 12. It has come off very slow because changing my whole lifestyle has been hard for me. But it's coming off and that's all that counts!! LOL! My immediate goal weight is 175lbs but long term goal is 150lbs. I have been on a plateau for a couple of months now but haven't really put in the effort to break it. So I hired a personal trainer which I will start training with on Monday Aug 21 so I can get these last 30-50lbs off.
I have attached before and 2 midway face pics of me now. You might have to click on each photo to see them close up.

I am excited about meeting you all and I will definitely keep you posted on my progress!!

You can tell that you have lost weight, and you are so pretty to begin with, beautiful smile. You go girl, trying it the natural way and being successful at it. Keep going and good luck with the remaining pounds, with enough excercise those will melt off easily.

Thank you!!!

Thank you so so much!! I really appreciate that!!
Actually until I posted the pics and compared...I really didn't realize how much of a difference my face looks.

Thank you again for the compliment! That made my day!!

some people do need that surgery, but IMHO even in your old pics you dont look like you need it.

i would never consider surgery unless i was like 350 or something uncontrollable, but sometimes thats how it feels to be fat.

good luck, keep on posting!

Thanks Shyguy! One of the requirements was that you have to be 100lbs overweight and your BMI has to be 40 or more. I was right at 40 for my height at 5'4. I was considered a lightweight. I always imagine how I would look now if I would have had that surgery. I probably would be skin and bones by now.
I have always carried my weight a lot different than others. People can't believe that I am 201lbs. now they always think I am already at 175-180 but I'm not. Thanks so much..and I will keep you all in the loop!!

YAY for you for taking this into your own control! ...and you are B-U-TI-FUL!!!!!

you look soooooooooooo good!! im so glad that you decided not to have the surgury :) and like others said...i cant belive u were even approved for that. You've done an awesome job. Keep up the good work!!

Good job saying no to the surgery. I was really big, I was 350 pounds at 5'10 and bmi of 50.2 but I never considered surgery, to me its taking the easy way out and has too many risks involved.

I felt trapped and miserable all day and just ate more because I thought hey why not I am already fat and will probably will always be this way.

Well 1 year later I am still considered obese from the bmi calculator, but I am 240 lbs with bmi of 34.4 compared to 350 with bmi of 50.2 and I know by next year this time I will be under 200lbs if I keep up what I am doing.

I think my biggest motivation is to get to a bmi of 29.9 or less real soon so I will be considered overweight and not obese. :)

Never give up no matter how bad of a day you have. I can definitly see a difference in your pics and I am sure when we all meet our goals we will all be much happier and proud of ourselves.

Wow you loook gr8! My sister in law had gastric sept of last year she was 260

I am kinda trying to prove to her I can do it without surgery.
(blah blah to the lectures she gives me about getting surgery)
Congrats to you for your success and saying no to surgery!
you are very beautiful!

So Inspiring!!!

:D Thank you guys so so much for all the compliments!! All of you look GREAT with your progress too!! I can't wait until Monday to get the ship seriously rolling again!! Just posting on here has made me extremely motivated. I was already motivated but it helps to have people behind you to give you that extra push or to hold you accountable.
Again, I am so happy that I didn't have that surgery! I had spent so much time convincing people that it was the right thing to do for me but I never really sat down and thought about it until I had my Pre-Op appointment at the hospital. I was so so freaked out! I just couldn't do it.
Thanks again guys!! WE CAN DO THIS!!!:D

You look so pretty, before and mid-way! You should be very proud of your accomplishment because it's not a minor one! I'm actually just starting out and I'm at your exact starting weight....I'm 240.6 lbs as of yesterday and my doc actually told me that I have to do something because being 35, having been on blood pressure meds for 10 years now, and now my cholesterol is high and I'm borderline diabetic with the beginning of an ulcer, a herniated disc in my lower back, and a really extensive family history of heart disease, I either do something now or not live a full, active, hopefully long life that I could live otherwise. Anyway, keep up the great work! I'm so scared of having gastric bypass done, even though my doc has said I meet all the criteria for it. I don't blame you for backing out.

May I ask are you following Weight Watchers or just your own thing? Did you start exercising right away along with changing your eating habits or did that come later?

Hey!

Hey Christmas Eve! Thank you so much!!
Well...I actually just started being more active first using the Walk Away The Pounds DVD at home. It is so easy! When the workout is over..you don't really realize that you walked a mile!! It is excellent for people who are just starting out too. I know I sound like an infomercial but it's true....then I watched what I ate. I was on weight watchers for awhile which really helped me with portion control but stopped going to meetings after about a month. The little things you do really add up. Taking the steps, parking my car far from an entrance, eating a Mcdonald's Happy Meal instead of the full value meal. I live in an aprtment complex so instead of my boyfriend taking the trash out, I insist on walking it to the dumpster myself. Just little things!! I have not done anything extreme. The only thing I can say do is drink water. I rarely get 64oz. in but I usually get about two 16oz bottles in a day. Take the extra time out to bake your food instead of frying it. That makes a BIG difference!! I also try to cut down on consuming red meat. Chicken, Turkey, or Fish are my main meats. Ground turkey tastes just like ground beef but it has a whole lot less fat in it. It's a little more expensive but worth it. I haven't done anything extreme at all.... I think that's why it has come off slow but I think it will stay gone when I am done. Consistency is key too. Stay consistent! I think if I would have stayed consistent more..I would have hit my goal a long time ago.
I have gone a whole week without really doing a workout...but I walk around the block or go swimming, cleaning house or playing with my dog. I usually do things that are workouts but you don't think about it while your doing it because it's fun.

THanks

I appreciate the info. THe last time I lost a significant amount of weight, it was in large part due to Walk Away the Pounds. I'm very familiar with it. I just started doing it again last night to the 3 mile dvd (just jumped right in). I got to two miles. I'm figuring if I can do that 3 times a week to begin I'll be good.

Thanks so much for the advice and information. I love to hear how other people succeed!

Thanks again, and keep posting!
