Hi, I'm Jayne and I've just signed up. I'm following a low-fat diet while using Hoodia - so far since June 22nd I've lost 2 stone and would like to lose at least 1 more stone, if not 1 1/2.

I know some people don't agree with taking tablets and I don't blame them. However, I'd never take anything that wasn't natural or that had any additives or chemicals in them. Hoodia, for me, has completely changed my habits.

Anyway, look forward to getting to know you all.

What made you go with a low-fat approach?

And do you know how much good fat you're eating?

just because it's "all natural" doesnt mean it's healthy...

welcome to the forum...

I didn't want to cause any arguments. In my experience with it it's been absolutely fine. I feel better than I have for years, I've lost weight and am still losing weight, I'm happier than I've been for a long time and if that's been helped by a tablet that has not got any side-effects then that's my choice surely. I said I know people don't all agree with it and that's their choice. That's what it's all about surely - freedom to make the choice on what method of weight loss management is best for you.

Hi Steve, I went with the low-fat approach based on doctor's advice. She wanted to put me on Xenical and explained the way that worked and the diet you're advised to use. I decided against Xenical but chose to follow the low-fat diet. It's been a lot easier than I thought and easier to implement into cooking for a family of 6 than expected.

I'm basically looking at food tables on food packaging and going for foods that have no more than 5g per 100g total fat. Also cut out crisps, biscuits, sweets, puddings and take-aways. I eat more fruit than ever before as well.

Right, I understand what you're doing.

But not all fat is created equal. Saying fat is bad is utterly stupid and if your doc didn't make a clear delineation between good vs. bad fats.... it's time to find a new doc.

Good fats are a critical component of a diet.

I agree totally. The way it was explained was to ignore any breakdowns and just look at the total amount of fat per 100g so that it will include the good fats, if that makes sense.

Not particularly actually......

How do you know if the total amount of fat per 100g is good or bad?

Oh, and please don't think I'm trying to give you a hard time.... that's not my intent at all. I've seen a lot of docs lead their patients astray in terms of nutritional recommendations and I wanted to make sure that's not what's happening here.
