Hi all ,

Just wanted to introduce myself. Lyndsey, 28yrs, Newcastle. I have 1 son (4yr).

I am 15st 3lbs. I have steadily put on weight since my early teens and was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome.

I took part in the boots weight loss programme in 2006 / 2007 and sucessfully lost 5st with the help of orlistat. Unfortunatley due to a lot of huge changes in my life i put back onn 4st of it.

Setting myself a realistic target to start with (to lose 10% of weight within 12 weeks - the goal i was initially set by boots)

I have been to the docs who has given me a prescription for orlistat as i cant afford to do it through boots this time. Got my life back on track - if not somewhat improved , so now need to regain my self confidence.

I am a little concerned though that i have taken Orl the same as the last time an have been on itfor a week now and have not appeared to have lost anything. Eating less than 15g of fat each meal as it did last time. I have not had a period since february and just got it this week so wonder if this has anything to do with it ...........

Was hoping to have seen a loss to regain my motivation ...................

any advice , similar stories , anything ........ much appreciated

hi

thanks for replying , i found that i had no probs at all with the meds. I suffereed none of the "side effects". I basically followed the advice of my pharmacist of a low fat diet and everything went fab.

Wish i could get back in the right direction this time.

I did find that last time i would drink a lot of water which i habe not done this time. I was working in a government office sitting right beside the cooler so just kept filling the bottle up. It did seem to clear my skin, stop me from picking at biscuits etc and maybe decreased my headaches aswel.

1st thing im going to go out and get a couple of drinking bottles of water and keep filling them up. Period seems to be coming to an end now so will see what happens next week.

No excuse at all but because i had 1st period in 5month i was just soooooooooo hungry and feeling very down so wen the scales said i lost nothing i was very upset and lost track.

How often do you weigh , some people do it every morning , others every couple of days , once a week , i dont know what to do for the best.

I have PCOS too, had it for longer than I even knew and had to fight to lose weight. I also have insulin resistance which is often the case for those of us with PCOS. I'm on metformin for both but don't take anything for weight loss itself. I googled the orlistat and saw that it's Alli...hope it works well for you. After both my co-workers used it and had the embarrassing side effects of it, AT work, I won't even try it, lol. Anyway welcome to the forum and hope you get as much out of it here as I have :)

P.S. oh and your missed period could be as much from the pcos as anything else...thats a common symptom. I still miss mine here and there too but least it's not like 8 months straight.

I had regular periods when i first started then wen i was in very early 20's they became quite irregular. They did blood tests etc and diagnosed PCOS. I was given no medication or anything.

Never had much contact with GP so never raised the issue again. It was not until a few year ago when i changed to a diff doctors i was given metformin aswel (never really explained to why / or what it would do for me) then after no period for 18month i discovered i was pregnant ....... which was a shock as obviously assumed i was no ovulating so that why i had no period. So they took me off the metformin due to pregnancy. It was never given back to me. I asked a while ago and the gp said my blood glucose was borderline but still didnt give me it. So have no idea what i should do about that.

As for the orlistat , i was working very closely with the pharmacist and met with him weekly , followed very strict plan and had no side effects at all. If you eat too much fat in your meal that is when you will suffer lol.

It is from the same manufacturer as Alli but the over the counter is half the strength of the prescription. (worked in Boots dispensary for a while)

Gratz on having a baby :) my hubby and I are still trying. And as for the Alli, you're right. My coworkers thought they could just still eat all the fat and not care cuz they had a pill. Boy did they suffer some consequences, lol. I was pretty embarrassed for them...well one anyway cuz it happened at work but the other had it happen on the way home and was silly enough to admit it to us. Glad you got your ticker to work :D
