Hi, I've been reading these posts for a couple of weeks and thought I would join in. It seems like there's a lot of good support here.
I'm a 53yr old working on trying to get down to 140lbs. I;m 5'4"and I've been on a diet for the past yr and have lost 28 lbs so far. I started this year at 210lbs. 10yrs ago I weighted 242lbs and lost 100lbs in 10 months. I keep it off for a while then started gaining weight again 6yrs ago. Today I'm 182lbs.
It's a lot harder now I'm older but I am determined to get to 140lbs! I felt so much better when I was at that weight.

You can do it!

Hi Lyn,

Congrats on losing those 28 pounds! That is a big accomplishment. Your determination will lead you to succeed. Take it one day at a time and that helps a lot. What have you been doing to lose weight? I've read a lot that the key to losing weight when getting older is to incorporate resistance training. For thin and lean muscles one should use low dumbbells and high repetitions.

Hi Zera,
I've been counting calories and watching the type of foods I'm eating. I also watch the carbs by making sure that the type I have are complex carbs. I weigh my food also. So my diet is made up of: complex carbs, lean meats such as turkey, chicken and fish. I have increased the amount of fish I;m eating to at least 3 a week and reduced beef to 2 serving a week. I have also increased my fruits and vegs. I usually have yogert at least once a day. I also make sure I use at least 1 tablespoon of olive oil in my cooking each day or eat in my salad dressings.
I am also exercising. 5x's a week treadmill and elliptical and 3x's a week I do weights and other stuff to prevent bone loss.
