Hi....I'm New to the Boards

Hello,

I am new to this forum. I've been on a quest to lose weight for about 1.5 years off and on. I am currently 25 years old. Because of college, ive had to put my weightloss program on hold several times, but I'm finally done with school and ready to devote myself to getting fit. I started off at 290lbs at 5foot 6inches. I am now down to 230lbs with the 1.5years of start/stop dieting. My next goal is to get to 200lbs by the end of April.

I have started taking Twinlab's Ripped Fuel Extreme (Fat Burner) and Optimum Nutritions Instant Whey Protein (23g of protein per serving). I normally do about 30-45mins of walking in the mornings and 30 mins on the Gazelle (Tony Little's contraption). I also own a Total Gym and plam on making use of that again.

I have put myself back on a 1800 calorie diet like I was on before. I will try to get to the 40carb/40prot/20fat ratio that most people strive for. Because I am a vegetarian, it is hard to get alot of protein, hence the Whey Protein shakes. If anyone has advice as to increase my weightloss, Id love to hear it.

Thanks

Steve M.

I would ram up the cals to at least 2200. You really should include strength training to preserve lean muscle mass. When you eat at a caloric deflict you lose both fat and muscle, to decrease the amount of muscle loss weight training is essential.

Ripped fuel was probably a waste of money but it does help motivate people in some ways but don't expect it to work that effectively without a decent eating plan and excercise.

If you buy online i suggest you get a protein blend also that includes whey, casin and egg proteins. atlargenutrition.com has a good cheap product.

Good Luck

Hi Steve, I too need to get in gear! This looks like a great place for knowledge and support. I wish you the best as we both become lean, mean, fighting machines! :D

2200 Calories?

I would of thought that eating less is better, and 1800 seems to be the min. I've heard to going 1000calories under you metabolic needs is what you want to be at. 2lbs per week weightloss, not to quick, not to slow. I dont know how to calculate how many calories i burn on Tony Little's Gazelle or doing a workout on my TotalGym at home.

Once I'm in better shape, I'll get a Gym Card, but I'm going to wait, since I will be moving to another state in May. From now til May, I want to get into descent cardio shape so that I dont feel horrible going to the gym.

Thanks

This is a general guide;

If you create too big of a calorie deflict you will lose muscle mass, not good. 2pounds a week should be pretty good. You can lose more then that if your very muscluar but i would avoid that.

In that calculator, what do they consider as Exercise Level? I normally get on the Gazelle 4-5 times a week for 30-45mins, do about 25mins of work on the TotalGym 3-4 times a week, and do some walking at work (mostly walking from building to building (20-25min walk to get from one building to another 2 times a day minimum. and walking from car to building (15 minutes)). What would that be considered on that calculator?

If I do go up to 2200 calories, I think I will make my Protein Shakes with Non-Fat milk (about 200 cals for 18oz) to have some carbs into my post workout drink, and perhaps add another snack somewhere in my day.

Thanks.

Use 5days maybe, like i said its just a general guide that has been used for many years. You'll see the formula near the bottom of the page.

I will try 2200 calories for two weeks, and track my changes. Thanks for you help. I will keep you posted on my progress.
