Welcome to the forum.

You made a couple of duplicate postings which I had to delete because we have a rule that forbids duplicate postings.

While some people do a detox - I cannot say that I have ever done one or believed that it would benefit me... It sounds like a lot of tough and miserable times for no benefit.

I do think that it will help you to cut down or cut out junk food and any takeaways that you may have...
Aiming to drink at least 1 ounce of water for every 2 pounds of your weight will help.
Becoming calorie aware will help which will involve you using an oil spray like fry light for cooking, opting for sauces which are low in calorie, opting for a breakfast cereal which isnt covered in sugar, using things like diet sodas and sweetener instead of sugar, low fat options for dairy - skimmed milk, low fat yoghurt etc...
Become aware of portion size and try to guide yourself towards the recommended portion sizes.
Try to have 5-a-day and have at least 5 portions of fruit or veg across the day... Lots of people do not have enough vegetables and they are great to fill up on and provide us with vitamins to keep us healthy.

Use that gym membership. Lots of people that go to a gym would prefer that they had smaller tummy, thighs etc - but the people that go to the gym are doing something constructive about it... Wear something baggy if you like - tracksuit bottoms are great at covering you up - but the important thing is to go and work hard. I go to a gym for zumba classes - and can honestly say that at my classes - everyone looks wrecked, red and covered in sweat long before the end... When I say everyone - it includes the instructors and visiting fitness instructors and dancers... There is nothing wrong with getting so that you look wrecked - it shows that you have worked hard...

The most important thing is to act immediately and do what you can. In weight loss - it is far too easy to put things off and let things get worse while you are waiting for it to be more manageable or for your to feel up to doing what you think is the best thing. Do what you can today - even if it is maybe cutting out chocolate and going for a 15 minute walk... You can always build on it tomorrow with something more...

I suggest that you read the following thread - it may help you settle in and make friends here

Good luck with your project.

Hi..im new too..I havent posted for a bit as i lost password, but found it again

i am 5ft 3in ( or just a wee bit over), and weigh 11st 8..I was round 13 half stone, but have lost quite a bit( was bit over weight with BMI and height)

i found this site last night with BMI calculator on it and a needle..I put my details in it and it says overweight with the needle..I still have a bit to yet according to the calculator needle, like another 1 half stones..I can get down to 10 stone and it says im normal weight or 10st 4 its ok..

About 7 years ago i lost loads of weight , but because of moving house and the stress of it i gradually put it back on :(..I still have my size 10 jeans in the wardrobe :D and i swear one day i will fit back in them..:p

I love walking and got the exercise bike and abs roller in the lounge, and use them whilst watched tv..Also i have been doing some zumba, and today i jst wore my underwear as i was getting hot, and doing my own thing to my ipod music lol...My goal was for my birthday in about 3 weeks time, but as i now need to lose more i shall focus on Christmas to get to weight i want...Sorry for long post by the way, ranted a bit :)

wow, that was my last post in September too, hasn't time flown by lol

Pax, it's all up to you. You are in control.... do nothing like you are doing right now, or make changes and stick through it until you see results that build your motivation to keep going.

Daily exercise... build up to a meaningful amount of exercise. Change your eating habits to cut down on 'dead-weight' foods and opt for nutritious/super-foods instead. You have to learn about food/nutrition and really believe in what you are doing. Instead of just trying to lose weight, how about going for something bigger... adopting eating habits with the goal of living longer and even minimizing risk of getting cancer. Everybody thinks it'll be the other person who ends up getting cancer.

Bottom line... you can do anything you set your mind to and really believe in what you are doing. And, fighting for even small positive results can be a strong motivator. Good luck.

Hi. I had the same overweight problem. And I lost many pounds without food diets and training centers. I know, it sounds crazy at first. But before you say something. Try it !!
