Hi guys!

I'm Gemma. I am a student and Binge drinking at the weekend has taken its toll on me, followed by long hours sat at the laptop doing work :( I hate what I'm doing to my body!

I'm not over weight but I NEED to lose a stone.

I have gained 8-9lbs in just over a month and I'm going to blame it on the amount of eating out I have been doing.

Leaving me at 9.8 stone (137.3 pounds). I REALLY want to get back to 9 stone again (my reality back to normal goal) And if that persists get myself to 8.5 (119 pounds) (my dream goal)

I'm 5ft3 (160cms) so my shortness makes my fat look even WORSE and I'm very unhappy with my image :( more to the point I sometimes think it's impossible for me to maintain any type of fitness regime.

Once I figure out how to upload a picture of my body on here I will and I hope this site gives me the right motivation I need to push me :)

Thanks :) And hi!

3 meals a day with no snacks unless they are fruit, lots of water a day and running for 30 minutes in the gym when I have time to head over there :)

Got any tips??

I'd recommend taking more of a systematic approach. For one thing, saying something like "3 meals a day" won't necessarily work with your lifestyle and preferences, nor does it necessarily mean that those meals will be conducive to weight loss. There's also nothing wrong with snacking if you know how to do it (I pretty much have to most days or I get sick).

I recommend having an awareness of calories (or calorie counting if you're willing to do that). Start here (I have no affiliation with the website/ product, it's just a useful tool): Type in your details, and change the weight loss figure to what you want to achieve. Don't allow it to go under 1200 calories a day, and don't aim to lose more than a kilogram or 2.2lb a week (for safety/ keeping your metabolism high). The idea behind it is giving you an estimate of how many calories you burn in a typical day (through exercise but also through the processes- heartbeat, breathing, etc- that keep you alive). If you eat less than that, you'll lose weight. In terms of weight loss, it sort of doesn't matter what you eat, when, or how much, as long as you eat less than your maintenance number of calories per day. (It of course matters for other reasons- nutrition is very important, as is not being hungry all the time) I have two (unrelated) medical conditions which are associated reasonably strongly with weight gain/ obesity, and I've tried a lot of different things to lose weight in the past, and counting my calories has been the only thing that's really worked for me- I've lost 5kg (just over 11lb- there's 14lb in a stone) in 6 weeks.

If you can't or don't want to count calories, at the very least have an awareness of high and low calorie foods, and how certain things work within your calorie "budget" (for example, if you need to eat 1500 calories a day to lose a pound a week, and a ready made sandwich contains 500 calories, is it really worth 1/3 of the food you get to eat for the day? Different foods also contain different calorie densities, and it's worth figuring those out). You can get that sort of information on packages or by using a search engine.

Hope this helps :)
